If someone sees a story on the online versions of newspapers they should copy the text and paste it on the relevant thread. This means that we won't be lining the pockets of the newspapers who rely on hits to their web sites to raise money.

What say you?

If it's against the law, we should ignore the law. If anyone tries to enforce it, we should ignore that.

Wanna put us in jail for discussing something on the internet, do ya?

I believe the Mail had it taken down.

There's no need for the dead hand of the Law in this.
I'm sure we're perfectly capable of regulating ourselves.

Now hear this.

Visiting the ShiteRag may be a good thing—IF you have an adblocker installed on your browser.

It all depends on the model that a Website uses. Now I [strongly] suspect that a site as large as the Mail uses the CPI one. That is, they get paid every time the ad is seen, if you block the ad it doesn't get seen, ergo no brass in Papa Doc's pocket.

Web advertising is very different from TV advertising, where they have complicated formulas such as - if X watches the programme then Y will see the ad and Z will purchase.

Everything on the Web is 100% trackable so if advertisers of the calibre that can afford to peddle their shit on the MailOnline are NOT running their own analystics and relying on the site to say "Oh, we get a gazillion hits daily, please give us your money" then they deserve to be ripped off.

So, if you haven't got one get an adblocker as soon as possible and use it. White-list the sites you want to support, if any.

To re-cap, if you load a page full of ads and you have your adblocker turned on you're using up the ShiteRag's resources (of which bandwidth is only one) but provide them with NO revenue. Which is nice.

I will look further into this but until I know otherwise I'd recommend sticking with the Status Quo—and maybe some Whitesnake thrown in for good measure.

That is all.

Carry on.

I've been for a spin in my time machine. Thomas Jefferson, John Milton and George Orwell all agree with us.

The traffic still counts even if the ad impressions don't. It is galling, without doubt but our hits are in "the public interest", as they say in media circles

Which adblocker would you recommend Carlos?

Fer ya Windows the weapon of choice is always Adblock Plus. http://adblockplus.org/en/

There's a Mac version which I use with Safari - Firefox may have its own thing going on.

Linux? Probably AdBlock, too.

iOS and Android? No idea about the latter and you can't really modify Safari on the former - I'll have to look into it.

Yeah, but are they getting revenue from those hits? Need to find out more about their setup.
Also, don't forget, that only one hit counts a day. Once you've been there you can go back as many times as you want with the same IP.

Not directly but every adds to the total which, in turn, augments their sales case.

I suppose, but the number of members from here clicking won't have much of an impact, if any. You could take the moral high-ground and not visit at all but then what's the point of this place?

C & P-ing is no good, people will want to see the beast in the wild.

Anyhoo, whichever way you look at it having an adblocker installed is a god-send. And a Flash blocker, too.

Aint't arguing. The "public interest" defence is plausible enough.
