I'd imagine many of them consider anyone from more than 5 miles away an immigrant.

I think the seasonal labour force is still mostly eastern European. The council has been throwing money at the port, which already seemed to employ mostly Poles when I was there in the 1980s. I visited Holbeach back in 2009 and the locals looked exactly as you described, with Fenland accents to boot. I didn't stop to interrogate anyone about their politics, but an application to build a mosque for the 50 or so Muslims in Kings Lynn was rejected for fear that the region would turn into Fen-istan.

Or anyone who isn't a member of their extended family.

Which is probably the same thing.

That's a painfully dull blog.
After a few sentences I was imagining it being narrated by the priest with extremly dull voice from Father Ted.

She totally lost me with the "Tory front bench are line totally intelligent".

Has it still got the large Eastern European population it had a few years ago or have they all gone home now?
I saw a documentary or two about migrant workers in Spalding, Wisbeach, Downham Market etc about 5 years ago, most of the locals they interviewed were expressing views which would gladden Nick Griffin and Niggle Fuggle's hearts whilst sporting bulldog tattoos and broken noses.

I'm pretty sure there was a subversive reason why the yanks sited their Cruise missiles where they did.

Could do without Minette Marrin. And Griff Rhys Jones. And David Willetts, too.

In fact, if it was just Dimbers, Prezza, and Lucas it would be great.

I shan't, if you don't mind. But I shall read your comments with appreciation.

I can't believe I haven't posted Griff Rhys Jones in the 'You know what I hate?' or 'Faces you could punch' threads. Jeez that man is annoying. If I were Dara O'Briain I'd have pushed him into every river and canal in Britain by now.

What have you got against Griff Rhys Jones? I have no strong feelings about him either way. I've watched most of those "Three men..." programmes and Rory McGarth would be the first in the canal if I had my way.

It's hard to explain. It's a combination of finding his voice and personality really annoying, and his jokes and career not impressive enough to make up for it. He has quite a pedantic manner, and sometimes comes across as a bit of a know-all. Above all, I just don't warm to him — I find him brittle and androidy. I get the same impression from Sean Lock, who has the same nasally voice and rather harsh tone, if that helps.

I'd probably have nudged McGrath overboard a few times too.

Have you seen the abysmal 'documentaries' McGrath has done? On home-brewing beer, the archaeology of pubs and Britain's Bloody History. Not very good at all...

On the other hand, I read his book "Bearded Tit", and surprised myself by quite enjoying it.
