I'm not sure about the quality of his sadface there. I think he is far too worried about losing face with his school chums and has tried to pull off a catalogue pose.

It's rare that we get a sadface that's not related to the new ticket machines in Sainsbury's carpark (pretty much the only thing that the Bucks Free Press has been reporting on for the last six months). The readers don't have much sympathy for this one:
Quote:
Oh boo hoo, he'll just have to get the earlier bus & wait the 40 minutes at school or get a lift with his mum. How is this worthy of a press article?

Quote:
Sounds like a bicycle might be a good investment for someone - in time and money.
.
It's not really that far from HW to Bourne End.

Not that far? It's seven miles away.

Would it be far too suspicious of me to think that there is a very obvious reason why they aren't showing such sympathy for this guy compared to how I think they'd react to the same story told by someone else...someone more...mail-like?

Unfortunately, I think you've hit the nail pretty much on the head.

Probably right, South Buckinghamshire is pure Mailite territory - and I think the mum was a Labour candidate in the council elections a few years back, so double PLU fail.

It's a wonder she's not been ridden out of town on a rail.

Is that why they mention the local resident's name in the headline? Double whammy of ex Labour local candidate, and that name? After all, unless the local is a minor celebrity they don't usualy do that - they usualy just put "Local resident" or "Local mum/pensioner/ex soldier" and so on.
