I can't find a Mock The Week topic here (which is odd), so I thought I'd start one.
Feel free to lock this and direct me elsewhere if there is one and I've missed it.

How do we think the new series is going so far? I'm not hugely exited by it to be honest.

I can remember Dara occasionally coming out with some choice rubbish on rare occasions and me been left feeling a little pissed of by his frequent "the trouble with you people" comments about the non-Irish guests, but at least he's still a pretty good host. The show would definitely feel strange without him.

And let me get this straight, the BBC drove Frankie Boyle away by frequently coming down on him for his ruder jokes (not that he's perfect by any means), yet they still keep Andy Parsons?

One good but poorly delivered Littlejohn comment does not a great comedian make.

I just can't get my head round it.

Dara O'Briain and Hugh Dennis are what make it watchable. Russell Howard is OK some of the time but other times it's just a purile joke about what his mother said about some custard, and Parsons is much better doing his own material in his show (which I personally found excellent).

Most of the time their guests are actually pretty shit (although exception is made for Chris Addison).

Never really liked it. I like Dara O'Briain but the whole concept of the show is weak and forced. (punt and) Dennis are the least funny people in existence (the Now Show? FFS) apart from Andy Parsons and I never really found Frankie Boyle making jokes about the Queen's minge or whatever shocking thing he could come up with very funny. Shame because he had his moments.

Some of the people involved could be on something decent if they just changed it a bit.

Nothing wrong with The Now Show, I love it personally.

As to "least funny people in existence", James Corden? Jim Davidson? Stuart Lee? Ian Hislop?

None of those are funny in the slightest.

You got me, I may have been over the top there but the Now Show? Hmm. You're right though - I don't find them funny but I don't loathe them.

Hang on - Stuart Lee?

Stewart Lee (spelt his name right this time). I find him perhaps the least amusing comedian I've ever listened to. Which underlines the point about personal taste.

I've always quite liked Hugh Dennis. I used to love the Mary Whitehouse Experience he was in in the early '90's. Steve Punt on the other hand was bit of an irritant.

Hmm....

Too reliant on a few selected tropes. Paedophiles are to MTW what Birmingham City fans were to Jasper Carrott circa 1987.

Not a fan of the structured nature, but appreciate its purpose. Basically, on rounds such as 'Headlines', there's a set amount of 'joke time', followed by Dara asking for the right answer. But endless freewheeling would render the show pointless.

Aside:

The Now Show: sometime read the Now Show book (pub. 2009), and then compare to Lee and Herring's 1994 "Fist of Fun" book. Lee actually points this out on his website, along with everyone else who's plagiarised him and Herring.

I meant 'hang on - I think Stewart Lee is funny' not 'you've spelt his name wrong'. I didn't know tbh.

As for Stewart Lee I've gone right off him, even though I was quite a fan in the past he's now beginning to grate on me.

He and Herring seem to have quite a high opinion of themselves and the work they did together.
They were apparently quite annoyed at how safe the humour of On The Hour was and that it didn't go far enough, yet look at what they did together in the following years...Richard Not Judy and Fist Of Fun were hardly cutting satire were they? Good cult entertainment for students at best, and that's coming from someone who loved their shows at the time and can still watch them with some degree of nostalgia.

Smug gits with an over inflated sense of their own importance.

Michael McIntyre however, is indeed a cock-monkey.
And I agree with Mailydail's general sentiments, Outnumbered is one of the most overrated scrapings of knob cheese ever broadcast.

I'm not chucking shit at anyone who likes it by saying that by the way, just saying what I think of it.
