They'll probably do really badly again in the mayoral election.

Why are UKIP standing in the election for London Mayor? Are they going to pull London out of the EU?

I don't think it's silly to stand. The EU comes into a lot of things affecting London.

But what are they going to do about it, they can't pull London out of it.

Lobby on it. And (shit though they are) they do have other policies.

Plaid Cymru can't declare independence from Ceredigion Council, but they still stand.

As I say, there's a place for saying you'll lobby on stuff you can't directly affect but this is ridiculous.

Quote:
When FactCheck questioned UKIP over the points in its manifesto, the party told us that they were a vision of “what should be happening” in London.

While we accept that a manifesto is a declaration of aims or intent, we think the general public would expect it to be more than a pie-in-the-sky vision. After all, both Boris Johnson and Ken Livingstone have been harangued by FactCheck for not backing up their election pledges, so why should UKIP’s Mr Webb be treated any differently?

The fact remains that of the UKIP aims we have looked into, three of them are impossible for the Mayor of London to enforce: the VAT changes, reversal of the smoking ban and the idea of a tourist tax.

And the others create holes in the budget.

Even worse. They have taken on Tom 'Batshit' Bursnall from the Tories.

http://politicalscrapbook.net/2012/04/t ... have-vote/
http://leftoutside.wordpress.com/2012/0 ... the-world/
Quote:
The former chair of Conservative Future has suggested that the unemployed should not be allowed to vote. Tom Bursnall, who recently defected from the Tories to UKIP on Windsor and Maidenhead Council, specifically targeted the unemployed people on his Pro Capitalist blog, asking:

“Should people on benefits be allowed to vote?”

And it gets worse — when “Batsh*t Bursnall” goes on to suggest that rich people should receive more votes than the poor:

“It would be terribly ‘unfair’ of you to give equal representation rights to the chap who contributes 50 times more than the next person. In the same way as if you own 60% of shares of a company, you’ll get 60% of the voting rights at the Annual General Meeting.”

So Bursnall believes that the unemployed shouldn't get to vote (they have no stake in the country, no 'shares') but rich people should multiple votes.

This is what UKIP is now embracing. Charlatans and amateurs.

Jesus wept.

After Scrapbook exposed sick comments from a UKIP councillor on banning unemployed people from voting, the party’s most high-profile new recruit has rushed to his defence, claiming Cllr Tom Bursnall “has a point”, going on to say it is “dangerous” to let unemployed people vote.

Having defected from the Tories, 23 year-old Alexandra Swann was the star turn at UKIP’s recent conference in Skegness — with party leader Nigel Farage proudly declaring that “the Swann has migrated”.

But appearing to agree with Cllr Bursnall, who as the former chair of Conservative Future is also a defector from the Tories to UKIP, she continued:

“allowing people to vote on how other people’s money is spent — if they dont contribute — is dangerous”

With these views, Scrapbook was unsurprised to learn that Swann idolises anarcho-Libertarian philosophers and is completing a PhD in social Darwinism.

I agree - all tax dodgers should be denied the vote.
