'Moron' blasted for Union Jack insult to Queen
http://www.bucksfreepress.co.uk/news/9775788._Moron__blasted_for_Union_Jack_insult_to_Queen/
Quote:
A PATRIOTIC man has lambasted a prankster for insulting the Queen by removing his Union Jack covers on his wing mirrors.

The national flag decorations were removed from Mervyn Buston's car on June 13 when he was parked at Gossmore Recreation Ground in Marlow walking his dog.

Mr Buston, of Herons Place, Marlow, branded the culprit a 'moron' and said he managed to note a registration number of another driver, who he suspected did it.

He said: "He just decided that it was good idea for some reason to take it off and throw it on the grass, which was a rather stupid thing to do.

"The covers were not there in connection with the Euro 2012 and the England football team as I am a supporter of a game with a different shaped ball, but were left from the Jubilee celebrations.

"Removing them was really disrespectful to the Queen, not to me."

Call me a vandal, but it seems to me that removing union jack covers from wing mirrors is nothing short of everyone's civic duty. Anyone displaying them might as well have a large flashing sign up saying "I am a dickhead".

Our cousins in the USA have a flag code.
Lots of it is devoted to how to stand properly when the flag is getting raised, and I'm thankful we don't go in for that kind of fetishism.
Other stuff is about how to fold it when not in use, and to dispose of it when it gets tatty (Burning - a job that crying out for offshoring to Iran).
The bit I think we could learn from is the advise against tacky displays of the flag - not having it in advertising, swimwear, and other crap places.

Stowaways found hiding in car parts lorry heading for Sunderland

Quote:
The stowaways were handed over to the French border police and the vehicle was allowed to continue on to its destination.

Carole Upshall, of Border Force, said: “This incident shows why we base Border Force staff in France – to stop would-be illegal immigrants before they can reach the UK.

“Our strong presence in French ports like Calais helps protect the whole of the UK from people attempting to enter the country illegally.”

I thought the UK let anyone in?

I clicked on that expecting the goofy spider costume porn that's been floating around for ages. I will never sleep again.
