Associated Newspapers' barrister looked a tad uncomfortable.

<click> A light has just switched on in Mayle's head.

Sherborne should have been on yesterday but couldn't due to a family bereavement. Leveson accepted this but asked whether this would cause problems or embarrassment to other barristers representing newsgroups who will also be summarising their responses today. Sherborne has torn chunks out of Associated Newspapers and their barrister will follow Sherborne today, I think AN's barrister and AN would have preferred an overnight to let the dust settle.

Excellent news! Thankfully:

So with a bit of luck, they'll be calling for the gallows.

Bizarrely, one of the victims to whom charges relate is David Blunkett, who's been on the NI payroll.

Has he taken the money and stuffed them anyway? He could redeem himself for being a cunt.

Associated Newspapers' QC has ducked any rebuttal to Sherborne's comments and merely given a self-serving whinge that everything will be just fine and dandy as long as things stay just as they are with a few minor tweaks.

News International QC is on his feet and complaining that they mostly got it right.

If this were schools the papers would be full of it.

I read it that the named victims were passive players in the piece.
Hacked for their celebrity or news-worthiness, as opposed to being actively anti NI.

NI didn't care who they hacked, one of their columnists or even Sarah Payne's mother.

In summary the newspapers have said, 'Gis another chance, we'll be good, honest. Throw us into the brier patch of self regulation.'

Aye well. Assuming you mean Blair (and I am not his biggest fan), it has been a while and it is wholly plausible that he would fail to recall the detail relating to events contained within Jay's forensic questioning. What excuse have the others got?

Sorry - does 'liars' refer to Blair? Or to all the politicians who couldn't remember?

At times I wanted to smile about this (NI getting their 'comeuppance'). Then there is Sarah Payne's mother.

As a parent, that must have been truly horrendous.
