Virgin Media, Tesco and Easyjet have pulled their advertising too. Good on them.

Am I the only one who feels a bit inadequate when I have to rely on faceless corporations to fight my fight.

It's a mixed emotion thing though.
I'm almost enjoying it as much as I enjoyed Alistair Cooke's batting in last winter's ashes tour.

Channel 4 News has alleged that the NOTW targeted the policeman investigating some investigators (linked to the NOTW) for murder.

The Met are allleged to have confronted the NOTW at a meeting, and it seems to have gone no further. The wife of the policeman (who used to present Crimewatch) has confirmed she was told she might have been hacked 2 months ago.

This is potentially even worse than the Dowler and Soham allegations.

Surely has to be a public enquiry, doesn't there?

Cheers Tubby for the channel 4 info
Quote:
Channel 4 News also understands that Rebekah Brooks - now CEO of News International - knows all about this.

Because, it's claimed, there was a meeting at Scotland Yard in December 2002, in which the police challenged her over this.

So, basically, back in 2002 she would have known that detectives were being hired for surveillance and hacking. And if Rebecca knew then old Coulson as deputy would have known too.

There is surely no way either of them can continue their continued plea of "I know nothing"

Alas, no. A statement from Ford on BBC News 24 makes it clear that they are pulling advertising on NOTW, not the entire News International group.

Pathetic, Ford - not even close to good enough.

I saw something on the C4 News with all the opposition on their feet, but none of the government side.

Luckily John Bercow backed it.

He let Iain Duncan Smith off having to explain how he seems to have been denying stuff about homelessness though.

This is what The Guardian had to say earlier:
Quote:
After John Bercow announced that the debate was going to go ahead, all the Labour MPs stood up. This does not normally happen in the Commons - MPs only stand up if they want to speak in a debate - but they were doing this because the standing orders say that MPs who want to support the decision to hold a S024 debate have to show that they do by standing up. If more than 40 MPs stand up, the debate goes ahead without the matter being put to a formal vote. From what I could see, all, or almost all, Labour MPs in the chamber stood up. (They had obviously been primed on the rules.) Most, but not all, MPs on the government benches remained seated. That might have been because they did not want the debate to go ahead. Or it might just have been because they did not know about the SO24 procedure.

A later report says:
Quote:
Large numbers of Labour MPs stood up to support Bryant's call, along with a smattering of Liberal Democrats and some Tory backbenchers such as Zac Goldsmith and Bill Cash.

Labour is undecided about whether or not to put forward a substantive motion calling for a public inquiry that could be subject to a vote or amendment. Instead, they could try to flush out Conservative party support for News International by showing its MPs are objecting to the principle of setting up an inquiry after the police investigation is complete.

It does look that way, doesn't it? I'm rather frustrated that I'll have to miss the debate tomorrow.

That was from reading the Grauns politics blog earlier

It is probably a practical and contractual impossibility for them to pull. They will have a deal right across NI, News Group, News International (Scotland) Ltd et al and which ties in to Sky annorll. I am nigh on certain that they will not have a "no-scandal" clause written in to the contract. Yet.

I would imagine that the commercial department at NI are working on damage limitation as we speak and helping them to shift money sideways so as to keep the relationship mutually cosy, placate the Twitterati and keep selling vehicles to punters whose standards are such that they are prepared to actually buy, or worse, have the screws delivered in the first place.

I doubt too that Ford will be able to demand Wade's head on a silver platter. When Rupe is attacked, he is forced to show the intense loyalty that he demands from others and will back "the family" - at least in public. Remember, this cunt has governments in his pocket so it unlikely to yield to a near-bankrupt auto maker.

Step forward Nero Coulson. And keep an eye on which way his thumb is edging towards. (And look at who is pulling the strings.)

Lebedev knows they won't sue. A fishing expedition albeit one that might yield caviar, nonetheless.
