I think this could be one -
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... Court.html

It offers so many wonderful opportunities for Mailites to work themselves up into a total frenzy - PCgornmad, evil lawyers (and from Matrix at that), school discipline, legal aid, and, to top it all, uppity non-white people failing to be humbly grateful to be allowed into school at all. Surely we won't have long to wait before the flood of comments from pratts saying they are too angry to comment, Britain is despised the world over, expats saying how glad they are to be expats, and all the idiots who can't read blaming it on immigration policy, yumanrites and the EUSSR.

Ordinarily, I'd say that taking it to high court would be an overreaction, but this school does seem to have some bloody stupid rules regarding hairstyles. So girls are aloud cornrows but boys aren't in case it's down to affiliation with a gang? What, so girls don't join gangs?

I've never understood why schools are so concerned over hairstyles. As long as long hair is tied back for health and safety reasons, what's the problem? My brother's mate got suspended for having hair past his collar (which he kept tied back), and he ended up standing in front of the school with a massive sign saying "My hair doesn't stop me from learning. Suspending me because of it does." Eventually, the school gave in. :D

Probably just none that they'd ever be allowed to publish.

Indeed, one might advocate a headscarf of some kind to keep a lasses tresses under control...

I don't think there's any remedy other than the court if the school won't see sense. The Diocese is plainly going to side with the school so there's no point complaining to them, and the Ombudsman doesn't have jurisdiction. Ironically, if Gove carries on with his plans for taking away the powers of independent appeal panels we are going to see many more of these disputes coming before the courts, which will make life much more expensive for schools.

So a judge wearing a silly wig is going to have to decide what constitutes an acceptable hair cut for school.

The way I look at any issue like this when forming an opinion, is to think "would they be able to say this to an adult?"

Considering that hairstyle is not considered an acceptable thing for an employer to make demands of, I think they should leave the kid alone. What is this continuing logic that different rules apply to children when it comes to hitting them / dictating how they dress / a million other things? Obviously responsible adults need to be able to protect their kids from making dangerous mistakes, but a hairstyle really doesn't fall under that category.

It always strikes me that schools desperately clutching at straws make these petty rules. They are looking to blame the kids for any problem they have, rather than the admin or teachers.

They banned him on the first day? They banned him on the first day for that?

They can't possibly know what the kid was like in such a short space of time. Sounds to me like they were just looking for an excuse to get rid of him. I wonder why.

Purveyors of Nasty innuendo might wonder whether all haircuts on the banned list are based on dark frizzy hair.

Quite, it's already been mentioned that it isn't considered to be a bad haircut for girls, so there has to be a reason why they don't like it on boys. All evidence indicates the school leaping to conclusions based on gender at least, possibly more.

Seriously, I can't think of any haircuts that would prevent a kid from learning anything if the kid wants to learn.

It was unfortunate (or fortunate, depending) that the mother missed the first ten minutes of the parents meeting at the school where rules were explained.
