Take a load of money out of the economy by cutting public sector wages and wahey!

Stoke and Hull are already renowned for the strength of their local jobs markets, of course. In fact it's hard to see how dumping people London councils can't be bothered with in towns that are already flat on their arse could possibly fail.

Also I expect it's already pretty difficult finding a job in Stoke and Hull, I can't see the locals taking kindly to a load of rival applicants being dumped on their doorstep.

This blog post is worth a read. The government's ideologically blinkered approach to housing is truly idiotic. Shapps doesn't get anywhere near the amount of flak he deserves.

The Daily Mash covered the story today.

More lolz courtesy of the useless Shapps.

Quote:
On Today Shapps accused Newham of overstating the problem and "playing politics".. "I'm not saying the BBC has been hoodwinked on this, but you have to factor in that it's local election time, and this is a Labour council," he said.

But it appears Tory-led boroughs are also weighing up such a move, according to a proposal sent to Westminster council by one of its private providers, Smart Housing Group (SHG), that suggests rehousing "150 people within the next 12 or so months" as far away as Derby and Nottingham, "and ideally with an option for Smart Housing Group to increase this number over time to perhaps closer to 500 properties".

I think after Murdoch's testimony today we have a new front-runner in Mr Rhyming Slang himself.

It's a tough one this. I've got the list down to seven: Lansley, Gove, Hunt, May, Osborne, Alexander, Warsi.

Worst. Government. Ever.

Hunt, Gove - paid Murdoch employees.
Lansley - paid healthcare employee.
Alexander - mad as a fish. Dysfunctional human being with dysfunctional ideas.
May, Warsi - talentless, lazy token women.
Osborne - only there because he is Cameron's pal.

My reasoning is as follows:

Hunt: In league with Murdochs. Has done great damage to the BBC.
Gove: Generally incompetent and wants to ruin our education system.
May: Just plain incompetent.
Warsi: Dumb as a cupboard.
Lansley: Sold the NHS.
Osborne: Clueless, generally evil. Could turn milk sour from 100 yards, hence not allowed out in public.
Alexander: Sellout.

If I had to put three through to the boardroom I think I'd go with Lansley, Osborne, and Hunt for committing the greatest crimes.

Yes, except that Alexander isn't a sellout. He believes in his shit. He's pushing for cuts. He's an extreme orange book ideologue.

I hate how the phrase "affordable homes" has crept in to be acceptable.
as in x percent of a new build will be "affordable."

I'd quite like to know how much of this 'affordable' housing is bought on buy-to-let mortgages by people who then rent the places out at the 'going rate', and who will in no way, shape or form ever rent to people on housing benefit...

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think the phrase "affordable housing" is to refer to a property price that is a certain percentage or below of the average wage for the local area?
