Our local paper's site doesn't get a lot of comments, but they are a lot less moderated than the Mail. Sadly the format isn't so easy to copy-paste and read, but here goes

On the story of snow:

TinyLegacy wrote: Bournehammer68, you're an ignorant buffoon. The average teacher doesnt decide whther the school closes or not. The councils clearly cant be bothered to grit any of the roads or schools and cant risk being sued by people like yourself if your kid hurts themselves. Time at home with your kids? Heaven forbid. Why did you become a parent? Jesus wept.

Bournehammer68 wrote: Sadly some of us have to work for a living. I can only imagine that you don't. If you did you would understand the impact the lazyness of the public sector causes. As for my kids if you knew me or them you would know that quality time with them is very very important. strangely so is their education. so if you wish to start name calling I suggest you go elsewhere or should i start calling you a God squad muppet who believes in mythical beings...........

Hahaha oh dear. A) I have a very good job thankyou. B) Im actually an athiest, 'Jesus wept' is a phrase. C) I wasnt actually referring to your children, I was referring to SKcollob's comment.

Congratulations, your buffoon status has been certified. Go build yourself a snowman to celebrate.

I'm happy that the insult 'plank' is still serious currency in Dorset.
Albert would be very welcome there!

Ever attended Winton Community Forum Chris, the real retards come out for that event.

Basically Winton has two problems and one is anti social behaviour (which I agree is partly students) but apparently they also cause Graffiti which isn't students and never has been students.

Yet they link them so tightly that all the University is to blame for social meltdown in an area which is light on crime and light on anything serious.

My brother (a student at the university) lives in Winton. I think the area he resides in suffers from a few problems; like mattomac said, he doesn't see much done to combat it, but then again, I don't think ALL the issues need be attributed to the students. They don't seem to be 'accepted' by the locals and as such are blamed for everything. An 'us' and 'them' mentality is established and so the crime and antisocial behaviour is sort of brushed off because...well I'm not sure why. Perhaps the authorities think there's no need to investigate something if they think they've already got the guilty party sussed.

From what I have heard about the community event you mentioned, I'm probably glad that my brother will never become an integrated member of the Winton community. :)

I love local paper message boards. Here's a snippet from the Wandsworth Guardian

Quote:
my aunt a 87 year old lady has been asking the police to protect her from her unstable daughter, answer no it may infringe the daughters " human rights" to voice and inflict her views.
So what if we defend our aunt , polce answer we will nick you as you may not defend your aunt that would infringe the offenders rights conclusion this country has gone to the dogs if you want to suceed get a hoodie a tin of beer no glass thats middle class the police will then hide till your finished as thier busy stopping a man doing 31 mph as for my aunt she pays top council tax top rate of income tax for what, to keep the local scum in beer

Sounds like he has a legitimate complaint, but as another poster pointed out it's no wonder the police didn't listen if he complained to them in this fashion!

Anyway sorry to hijack the Bournemouth thread, maybe we should start one for random local papers?

Cheers Chris, such a shame the Holyhead and Anglesey Mail doesn't appear to have a message board (although maybe it's a blessing judging by some of the letters they publish)

Given me a kernel of an idea here. (insert nut joke)
Our local freesheet once published pictures o its regular green-inkers. It was very enlightening.
A lot looked like the pepperpots used by Python for its stock footage of an audience applauding : horn-rimmed Mary whitehouse fans.

So......

Trouble is that local papers are so desperate to fill space that they'll print any old shite, some of it written by the obviously mentally ill. I'm not 100% happy about getting angry/taking the piss out of people like that. Unless they get themselves elected councillors like that fuckwit Bob Mills in Newtown.

Well I'll add this from my new area....Anyone ever picked up a Cornishman Newspaper.

Ever seen Trago Mills adverts they basically advertise their tat at really low prices, and have a massive comment piece in the middle of the advertisement which is usually written by the UKIP leader for Cornwall and rants about how the EU is destroying Britain.

It's amusing as Trago Mills employs alot of eastern europeon immigrants.

Some of the Coventry forum posts are a hoot, check out the ones on the strike

http://forums.coventrytelegraph.net/vie ... 61&start=0

Strikes me as though "Boadacea" is a front for the BNP, not suprising how many there are around here, despite their claims of "I'm not BNP, everyone says I'm racist but I'm not, bloody foreigners"

I refuse to shop at bloody Trago Mills, the whole UKIP thing is very tiring. The adverts run in all the local rags I think, dunno about the Western Morning News but they're definitely in the Plymouth Herald.

Remember the one about gay people which caused a kerfuffle a few years back?

I agree and I wouldn't ever take the piss out of them, it's usually pretty clear who they are. Councillors, obvious BNP mouthpieces and anyone else in the public eye are fair game as far as I'm concerned!
