Absolutely seconded - and I speak as someone who used to work as a LitUK test supervisor.

The myth that it's all about things that ought to be common knowledge may perpetuate, but you'd know all of the answers if you read the accompanying book, and that's what anyone actually taking the test is told to do. It's more about comprehension and whether you have the English language ability expected of a Year 7 child.
