anyone noticed the comments accompanying their news stories? saw one on the smog story about how there will be food riots in 2 years in the UK. I mean having looked at HYS what possessed them to have comments on thier news stories

That'll be a sage looking at the Icelandic volcano that preceded the French Revolution.

I agree though, and wonder what BBC manager can have looked at Speak Your Branes and thought:

Incoherence.
Monomania.
Limited pool of obsessive posters.
We need to get this sort of quality out to the rest of the website.

WHO ARE WE KIDDING!! This probably happens everyday not just in care homes but in family homes, not just to metally challenged but to elderly people, children, even pets, who do we blame...How about society today, the lack of discipline at home in schools. The punishment just doesn't fit the crime anymore.

Yes Lorraine, I blame lack of discipline in schools. WTF? Personally I would blame the repulsive practices of private healthcare firms, and would think that this sort of thing will be become more and more common as Cam's mates asset strip the NHS, but what do I know? It's probably down to speed cameras. It's easier to think like that, isn't it Lorraine?

I like the way she lumps the vulnerable (the young and elderly) together with pets and people with iron deficiency.

I saw that doucumentary last night. It was indeed shocking, but still I found that the first thing I thought of once it was over was "I wonder what sort of comments THIS will get?"

Isn't punishing people the problem in all this.... if they gave a shit about other people then they wouldn't treat them like this

Looking at that place shown that there had been failings at every level. The NMC and RCN have been banging on today about how support workers should be regulated, how their training should be standardised and that that may lead to people actually giving a shit about their jobs. However, where were the nurses, who are supposed to be supervising these members of staff, who have the training to be able to plan and coordinate quality activities for these people creating a good therapeutic environment? The two who were shown on the documentary won't be nurses for much longer. Why are these activities not being arranged when the company made 30 million in profit the year ending 2009? Where has this money gone that was being paid for the care of these people? Why did the CQC ignore the concerns of a clearly experienced nurse who told them abuse was happening? I'm absolutely horrified the abuse shown has been allowed to happen and people at all levels have been complicit in it. Glad to see four of these have been arrested and that 13 have been suspended and will more than likely loose their jobs and be unable to deliver their fucked up interprtation of care to anyone ever again.

The nurse reported his concerns on three seperate occasions.

The representative from the care quality services seemed to be of the oppinion that there was a slip up, and that someone had failed to be observant enough on that occasion. More training was needed he says.

Once is a possible mistake (a dangerous one, naturaly).
Three seperate failiures seems to me to be dangerously close to deliberately ignoring a persons reports.
We don't know the facts of course, so we can't assume, but it is very odd indeed.

Indeed, he reported his concerns to his direct manager and nothing was done, then to the manager above him and still nothing was done so he went to the CQC who appear to have not done anything. its a shame that yet again a nurse who wants to whistleblow has had to use the BBC rather than the services that are supposed to be safeguarding the vulnerable.

And it's almost always the BBC isn't it? Funny that the Mail don't give them any credit for that, given that people obviously trust them.

This thread thoroughly deserves a good bump. So here it is...

Welsh government's 'opt out' organ donor consultation

I disagree with organ donation entirely and am disgusted that this nonsensical "opt-out" is even being considered, how dare anyone presume my consent, if I want to do something I'll be sure to tell you it's a lot easier than telling you everything I don't want to do!!!

This is totally unethical. The only thing we own totally is our body and soul. It does not belong to any government, Welsh or otherwise. Organs are harvested whilst the patient is kept artificially alive. No anaesthetic is used and the blood pressure rockets. Which indicates that pain is felt. No, no, no!

For a so-called scientist, people are just walking lumps of meat.

Chopping them up is no problem for a scientist, for a scientist has no soul.

No wonder the so-called medical profession is the one with the most suicides in it.

Should we build society around the wishes of suicidal Doctors ?

If there are any attempts to bring this legislation in in England I will immeadiately opt out of this scheme and campaign for people to opt out; I am pro transplant but my body is not my own and no "presumption" of ownership will be tolerated from the state, they can whistle for my organs.

I see any comments on here against the idea get a negative rating. They seem to want your body and you better not dare raise any objections about it!

What is to stop people been killed so the other people can have their organs.
What is to spot these butchers taking your organs and a few days later finding out that the dead people had 'Opted Out'.
Respect for the Dead, Let them RIP

Scientists are all white lab coats and painted smiles ... but when it comes down to it their view of the world is terrifying ::

Man has no soul, he is just a walking lump of meat. What rights does a walking lump of meat have ? We can take this body, and cut it up.

What rights does a walking lump of meat have ? This is Science's view.

Machine men, machine minds, machine hearts.

Have any of them realised that the organs will save lives? They're not being taken to be made into kebabs in the Welsh Assembly canteen!
