The latest opinion polls show that support for Scottish independence with the Scottish people is currently at around 30%.

Doesn't stop the Mail bile though as they perpetuate myths about spending revenues.

All conveniently forgetting, of course, that Scotland is funded by a block grant from the treasury, and that it is up to the Scottish Executive how that money gets spent. The so-called advantages enjoyed by Scots are solely due to this, and not because Scotland gets more money, though the average spend per head of population is slightly higher in Scotland by comparison to England because of the Barnett formula.

I have next to no interest in the issue, and from my extremely uninformed standpoint, I can see why people are wondering why we won't give them their independence and save some cash in doing so.

Unfortunately it's "extremely uninformed opinions" that are nevertheless loudly proclaimed that results in the Reader Comments.

I'm fed up with these stories about the Scots getting access to 'wonder drugs' that the English can't have. NICE hasn't ruled on the man's drug yet so it's up to the man's PCT whether they will pay for it or not. They might yet pay, in which case the Mail's rather jumped the gun.

Maybe, but it has my Scottish relatives too, so it kind of balances out.

No. A small percentage of it is in England, in the North Sea and an onshore oilfield in Dorset. In fact, much of the oil is in Shetland waters so they could just declare independence from the UK and Scotland would be shafted!

There are no 'Shetland's waters'. The Shetland Isles are an integral part of Scotland and have been for centuries. The Shetland Isles becoming independent is about as likely to happen as Cornwall becoming independent from England.

I got a 1.3k grant this year.

I've not read the article but I feel quite lucky all the same!
