With Trident based in Scotland (Clyde) will it make it the smallest nuclear power in the world ?

The SNPs policy is to get rid of Trident, so I would assume they'd end up based elsewhere, and I'd have thought the Navy would have a contingency plan.

Its safe to assume Scotland will not be a nuclear power after independence.

Daily Mail Leader.

This doesn't have anything to do with someone having a retirement property in Scotland does it?

It staggers belief they can lie like this:

Quote:
Crucially, how will it cope without the estimated £10billion-a-year subsidy it receives from the English taxpayer – money Mr Salmond uses to fund free care for the elderly and waive tuition fees?

Indeed, experts say that even if all North Sea oil and gas revenues had been allocated to Scotland, the country would still have run a deficit for the past 18 years.

The whole bloody country has a massive deficit, if £10 billion is all Scotland has then its clearly paying more than its share. And the old "experts say" line without any qualification whatsoever or reference is usually a cast iron sign of utter tosh.

10 Billion - Equivalent to 10 and a half days sports in the capital, or 20 weeks transport subsidy for err. the capital, (or a month's rent for a Somali family added Littlejohn). Or Vodaphone's unpaid tax for 2 years.

I always liked Tony Benn's suggestion to moor them at Westminster Pier.

I assumed Scotland would be a neutral country. Won't it?

They wouldn't need a nuclear deterrent. Not with Trident stationed immediately to the south of them. If anyone attacked Scotland no doubt what remains of the UK would probably end up being involved. They'd have the benefits of Trident without having to pay for it!

The Scots don't even need that.

They've got John Smeaton

How true this is I don't know, but I heard that SNP recruitment had leapt upwards in the last couple of days. What Dave doesn't seem to get is that Scots are not stupid and know perfectly well that whatever he wants is probably not going to benefit us much. And even if they/we don't actually formulate that coherent thought, let's put it this way, we have one more panda in Scotland than we have Tory MPs. Which tends to demonstrate how popular the Conservative Party (and its policies) is in Scotland. (I am, of course, ignoring the LibDem factor. Well, everyone else does.)

I think that's a valid point. The more the tories stick their noses in, the more it's going to drive Scots towards Salmond. Just when I think the tories couldn't possibly get more out of touch, they invariably do.

Scotland bashing helped win the general election in England. Oooh, Scotch Gordo, eh?

With that card gone, the Tories will have to think of something else.

Is this how the new Union flag will look? Gove accuses nationalists of 'dodging fundamental questions' on Scottish independence

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2086137/Michael-Gove-accuses-Alex-Salmond-dodging-fundamental-questions.html

Apparently the flag of the rest of the UK countries counts as a "fundamental question."

I've already told them the answer is no. And they should look up the terms "counter-changed" and "fimbriation".

Yes, I'm a sad flag-spotter, too.

Just read the comments on that story. The stupid is strong in that one.

Christ, I wish you hadn't said that. I've got a nose-bleed now.

Well, maybe the Mail correctly estimates the stupid of its readership. There is no reason whatsoever why the union flag would have to be changed if Scotland left the union.

Gove accuses someone else of dodging questions!

I bet he's really popular in Scotland. I'm starting to think the Tories want Scotland to breakaway now, if they set attack dog Murdoch cocksucker on them.

I mean, I know they're not overstuffed with charisma. But Philip Hammond, Justine Greening, William Hague would be capable of making a point with it getting on everybody's tits.
