Only there's no evidence he said any such thing, and the only source is Michael Forsyth, also known as the most dishonest man in Scotland.

I've never seen police at any polling station I've visited.

It's pretty normal, though they may not be there all day. They have to check assorted legal requirements. Usually they pop in, ask the party representatives if all is OK, have a chat with the workers and wander off. We had to call them to get rid of a Liberal/SDP person 'canvassing in the vicinity' some years ago.

Ah. The Mail suggested a continuous presence.

He told Chancellor George Osborne he would order Scotland’s police to refuse to man the polling stations

In England they usually do it through mobile patrols. I've looked it up, and there's no requirement for a guard (though I suppose one might be posted if there was a threat of some sort).

I'm pretty sure Scotland would be granted at least membership of the EEA and thus its citizens would have the right of free movement just as the English do.

Arse about face from the Heil, as usual. If I was Scottish, I'd be worried about coping with the influx of English asylum seekers.

Actually, most people appear to be pointing out another Mail failure of epic proportions. That being that Hadrians Wall is not on the English/Scottish border but a long way south in Northumberland and Cumbria. What prats they are.

I could even be one. I've always liked Scotland, and its women. Three out of four girlfriends were Scottish, and the fourth worked for British Caledonian. One of life's little mysteries, I suppose.

What exactly are these rating agencies, and why do they wield such power? I got the impression that it was them downgrading Greece that kicked off the Eurozone crisis.
