On the whole, midges are much more preferable.

Plenty of midges in Canada in summer, millions of the little bastards. And mosquitos, fucking HUGE, nasty mosquitos. Nothing compared to Alaska, though.

I dunno. Having been eaten by midgies, I sometimes think I'd take my chances with the bears.

Wales is like Scotland but more convenient- Snowdonia, Pembrokeshire, Powys all lovely.

Mind you, I don't they have proper wilderness, like Scotland does. Until Thurso pops up.

I do love living in Wales. We also don't have any of that sectarian crap to deal with. Arguing with a neighbour about religion would be far too much bother for a Welshman.

Agreed.
We moved to Swansea from Aberdeen in 1994 and found Wales to be very much like Scotland but with shorter distances, better weather and more English-friendly people.

Oh I don't know, Wind Street on a Friday night could get pretty wild.

I perhaps should point out that the sectarian crap is confined to a small part of urban central west Scotland, and is all but exclusively associated with two Glaswegian football clubs. Granted bloody faith schools don't help the situation, but it certainly isn't a widespread problem in society at large.

You've clearly not enjoyed the joys of Drumchapel.

State gives each Scot £1,600 more than the English as public spending south of the border plummets twice as quickly

Quote:
For every £4 spent on an English person, £5 is now spent on a Scot – despite the fact that those south of the border pay far more in tax than those to the north.

Redistributive tax system redistributes tax. Shocking, I know.

Tax money is spent on everyone else, but "lavished" on Scots.

The Taxpayers' Alliance is unhappy.

I thought most scots now live in England anyway. Advert voiceovers, university "experts", TV presenters, weather men and women - you can't turn on the TV without feeling you are in scotland.

My stepfather bangs on about this. Does it just apply to Scots, or do Mailites moan about the (I suspect, imaginary) over-representation of other regional accents in the media?

Scottish accents are generally considered to be warm and trustworthy, so they are used a lot in the media. At the other end of the scale you don't hear many Brummie voiceovers or weathermen/women.

That's bad? But possibly not far from the truth. The only Gaelic speaker I've known was born and raised in Cheshire.
And here we go again.

We could solve the current unemployment crisis, for a little while anyways, by rebuilding a certain wall that runs across the borders! Only joking Alex, I guess you will be doing that yourself soon!!!
