I cannot say that ramadan or any other celebration has ever caused me much disruption when traveling through town on public transport, and there are loads of people around here who celebrate them. Therefor I cannot see how it could possibly be that much of a problem for people in much bigger towns with more bus routes and wider roads.

Well, Rusholme in Manchester is completely impassable for about two days around Eid. The main road is rammed with people, especially teenagers in cars and they divert buses. It's generally a bit of a pain in the arse if you're trying to get into town.

But y'know what? It's a couple of days. And as long as you prepare for it to take a bit longer, you'll still get where you're going. Hardly a major issue.

Fucking hilarious.

What's your point?

Edit: This was a response to Mailwatchwatch's original posting which has now been changed, possibly by admin. His original post was a photo of a man mistaking a woman in a burqa for a pillar box and attempting to post a letter in her.

Indeed. Not an once of outrage at Qatar's Aia Mohamed wearing a headscarf in the table tennis, Egyptian pentathlete Aya Medany, Malaysian rifle shooter Nur Suryani Mohamed Taibi, American fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad. There are more examples I'm sure. Pathetic and unsurprising comments. Dog whistle exercise.

I just like the fact they all suddenly pretend to give a shit about the Olympics when a story like this comes up.

Maybe I'm being harsh, maybe they are really all passionate Judo fans who feel their favourite Olympic sport is under threat and they genuinely care about the safety and practicality of this decision, rather than seeing it as a chance to cry about double standards and special privileges for them Muslims.....

I mean, Bruce certainly seems to be genuinely concerned about the problems that could arise and wants to make sure there's fair play in his favourite Olympic event:

Quote:
If it prevents an opponent from seeing the position of your legs it is an unfair advantage.
- Bruce, Norn Iron

Because I'm sure this women competitor will be wearing her Hijab around her legs.

Bunch of fucking knobheads.

It's a tricky one, especially for whoever she's grappling. If anything comes off, the right-wing forums will be feasting on it for years :(

I imagine it'll be specially designed, maybe fairly tight round the head so I don't think there'll be any issues. What's amazing is the comment I quoted about a headscarf obstructing the view of her legs has now got 590 green arrows. I can't get my head around how stupid these people are.

What I don't understand is how wearing a scarf on your head can obstruct an opponent's view of your legs.

The only possible way that it could reduce vision would perhaps be in making it harder for the wearer to see the legs of their opponent, in which case surely this would in fact put the scarf wearing lady at a disadvantage, which would be her choice, not that ordinary headscarves are that restrictive anyway). If indeed it was a regular scarf, which I'm sure it won't be - I'm certain she will have one specialy made so that it can't be pulled off by accident.

Some people just have to take offence at something.

It's fairly obvious that they have mistaken a headscarf for a burqa. This is the kind of illogical leap you are prepared to make if you are determined to confirm your prejudices and see political correctness and positive discrimination in everything.

That illogical leap is assisted by the photo of the ladies wearing full burqas. Jeez, does Mailonline patronise its readers or what?

There are some sensible comments underneath the article, to be fair. A few have pointed out that Saudi Arabia allowing women to compete at all is a huge step in the right direction. It's just a pity that most commentators have responded in the way that Dacre and co. expected them to.

:P

True, there are definitely plenty of sensible comments, too.
