The solution is simple: send to prison all the children that have sex before 16 years age and their parents and their teachers. I bet things would change very soon.

his is terrible.Human life is precious and should be preserved at all costs.Condoms and abortions are work of the devil and will only serve to increase the pregnancy rate and AIDS just as the Pope has said.Younsters should realize that they can say no,which is by far the best and most effective form of contraception and that every sperm and egg are sacred.

I thought I would read the story and look at the comments expecting tolerance, understanding and reason. Some of the comments are vile in the extreme and not worthy of a publication with the standards of the Daily Mail.

This one reaches new levels of lunacy -



Wonderful vision there: teachers would develop an early warning system - Watch it guys, Gary and Tracy are looking a bit tired this morning and Tracy's got love bites - whereupon staffrooms would empty as every teacher who ever taught them from Reception upwards runs for the hills. Then John Bull would moan that all the schools have closed for lack of teachers.

It is indeed a very sad story. Had the baby gone to full term and been born there is every possiblity the mother would have died from exactly the same symptoms. With all the preventative measures available you have to ask why this girl was pregnant in the first place. It can only be ingnorance resulting from the lack of proper sex education.

This is why in some countries the limit for the bulk of terminations have to be performed under 12 weeks. After 12 weeks, the risks increase dramatically.
As 'abortion on demand' seem to be commonplace nowadays (this is not an issue about the right and wrongs here), I think the time has come to be frank with our teenagers and explain the REAL risks of unprotected sex. Yes, abortions on the main are "safe" but there are always exceptions to the rule.

I attended a "sex" talk for 9 year olds a few months ago. It was sad because one of the safest options available - abstinence - did not even get a mention, not even a fleeting comment, not even a "wait 'till you think you're ready". The message was: it's OK to have sex whenever and with whoever, so long as it's "safe sex".

I really fear that there will be further cases as the number of under-age teenagers having abortions increases.

You mention 'traditional families' in this article as if they have never had any experience with abortions. 'Traditional families' - let's say here that the pregnant woman is happily married and financially stable - do actually choose to have abortions. It DOES happen; I know several people in such relationships and positions that have chosen to have them. It's ridiculous and offensive of you to label abortions as a symptom of a country's worsened morals, because they're not.

In regards to sex education - kids are going to have underage sex no matter what; there isn't a lot that can be done to stop them. All anyone can do is to give them a better sex education and access to contraception; then, at least they have all the facts, and can protect themselves against STIs and pregnancies. I don't see how a heightened state of ignorance (i.e. less sex education) is going to prevent pregnancies and STIs.
