Blair told parents they could NOT use their cars, they HAD to use a bus, provided by him, but it would cost them £10 to use it. The significance obviously escapes you, but you're not alone, a few million others idolised the 'man' for 10 years on the back of his & Brown's spend, spend policies that took us to the brink of bankruptcy. Nothing changes...
- Euxton stroller, Euxton, England,

Silly name, and quel surprise, a silly sod.

It wasn't Blair who banned cars- they aren't allowed for security reasons. You'd have thought the Mail readers who see Muslim terrorists round every corner might understand that.

Why is Blair a "man"? Does stroller want a fight with him?

The significance escapes me as well. Bloke doesn't spend as much money on something as you think he should= bankrupcy.

The damning of Tony Blair: Former PM to be held to account on Iraq in Chilcot report on war

Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... z1ThKu8aKM

Interesting article considering the report has yet to be written.

Blair's fucked either way. Court of public opinion has condemned him already. The Right hate him because he was Labour. The Left hate him because he sold his arse to the Neocons. If he's damned in the report, it'll just confirm what people feel already. If he's exonerated, it'll be branded a whitewash a la Hutton. Whatever the result, the Mail will run with "Well, tell us something we don't know" - either that Blair was a crook or that the establishment closed ranks. And then criticise the cost and nasty things said about the soldiers.

Britain is now at greater risk from terrorist attacks than any other Western nation, according to research.
The heightened threat in Northern Ireland has resulted in the UK being ranked higher than the U.S., France, Spain, China and Sri Lanka in the Terrorism Risk Index

Although the headline and intro are reader-baiting, this, for once, isn't paragraph 19. It's the beginning of the story. Later on an expert re-emphasises that Northern Ireland is the source of the extra risk.

So who do the readers blame? An ex-prime minister who helped reduce violence in Northern Ireland!

All thanks to Bliar, the combination of (a) his ego trip into Iraq, plus (b) his government's policy of open-door immigration; ie, declare war on a creed, then invite them to come and stay. Brilliant!

How much border protection would the £18bn we've spent in Afghanistan have got us in the UK? Apart from walls 30 feet high all around the coastline, at least the money would have been kept IN Britain and there would be a better chance of keeping the terrorists OUT.

- Dave, Oban, 4/8/2011 9:47 Rating 8

Walls around the coastline might not help with the Continuity IRA, Dave. And a 30-foot wall might not do much for the tourist industry in the town of my birth (alas not yet free of morons, it seems).

The Tories don't escape Mailite wrath either:

yet we still will not kick out these cowardice terrorist scum. in fact we let them walk past customs with out nothing said and allow them to stay here to spread their vile cowardice jihad speeches. terrorist alert my eye. according to the government it cannot be or they would just kick out all illegals etc

Hmm, an Irish Jihad? I'm intrigued to know just how many Muslim extremists the Continuity IRA has amongst it's members.

I once heard a R4 programme about ethnic minorities experience of racism. Amongst others, it featured a Muslim shopkeeper in Belfast saying he reckoned it was the best place for Asians to live in the UK as the locals were too busy fighting each other to bother with him. As he put it, "The only question which matters around here is 'Protestant or Catholic?' and as I am neither of those, I get on with everybody". That was pre 9/11 though and it may have changed.

Following on from oboogie's last post, I remember a TV programme a few years ago with Warren Mitchell, where he was Jewish and sent to Belfast and neither protestant or catholic quite knew what to make of him

Still no apologies as Mr Blair rewrites history (again) and denies any blame for Britain's social ills

The one to blame is that harridan Thatcher . Her terrible policies of self and greed destroyed our industry and ruined the moral fabric. When history looks back she will be seen as the worst PM we have ever had, Blair will be seen as the man that almost saved us from her evil legacy. - Agent Smith, S.Yorks, 22/8/2011 9:59 Whereas I am not a great fan of Thatcher, Blair oversaw the imposition of the human rights laws which seem to be primarily aimed at benefiting criminals and illegal immigrants to the detriment of law abiding citizens and are responsible for more of the degradation of societys morality than any of Thatchers mistakes
- Mr Sanity, Somerset, uk, 22/8/2011 14:47

Mr Sanity...... Tee Hee.....

Maybe Blair should apologize only after the Mail apologizes for being a shitheap of humanity.....

'I'm ready for a comeback': Blair's made millions since quitting... now he wants to 're-engage with UK politics'

I am drawn on this. While I don't agree in full with his politics I have to admit that under Blair the UK improved.

It would be worth it to see the look on mailite's faces.... Perhaps he could come back as a real tory this time?

I'd back Blair if:

a) he apologised for the wars,
b) he had Andrew Adonis publicly flogged and thrown into an oubliette forever. With rats.
c) he promised never again to make decisions based on religious belief over evidence
d) he had a monitor, Roman style, standing behind him at all times saying 'respice te, hominem te memento' and a sign saying 'memento mori'.

It's an important one. Old Roman values stressed balancing great power with humility, status with service (think Cincinnatus - the patrician who lived simply, was called upon to become Dictator, and all that entailed, to repel an invasion, did so and returned to ploughing his fields in a fortnight, eschewing all the trappings of power). The monitor was there to prevent the emperor from getting ideas above his station. As he rode in his triumphal chariot to receive the plaudits of the people the monitor stood behind him, leaning forward every few moments, to say 'Remember! You too are mortal!, you are just a man'.

Much to unpack in that...
