CM - I'm a role-player, yes the terms are from that Werewolf game that was quite popular about 10 or so years ago. :D

Or "the werewolf".

aka the "hairy one with the big teeth"

I'm pretty sure there was a guy on it one year who was nicknamed "Wolverine" because of his facehair, so it seems all groups have been covered.

If it was daylight and not a full moon there would be no fangs, any ful noes that!

Re BB I used to be a fan, and I think we have to remember people choose to go on The trans man in question has not arrived from another planet, he is aware of what BB is. If one chooses to be on are you being exploited or are you simply pursuing you own goals, irrespective of sex, gender, sexuality race or class? Basically can a trans man be a celebrity wannabee? The answer has to be yes.

As far as the BB audience goes people are I think doing them a disservice, on BB nice guys (and gals) tend to finish first. I lost interest when the basic format was mucked around with too much, but the winners remained the same. Pete, who has tourettes is an excellent example. He didn't win because he has Tourettes he won because he was a decent kind human being.

But for every transgender or "nice" winner, there are a cavalcade of thick as two shitbricks winners, and new additions to the E-List of celebrity who didn't even come second but are now "reality stars".

So I'm sorry, but I don't think we can let the viewers off completly - at least I can't.

I don't think that anybody's arguing that ALL BB contestants are nice people or that BB is a shineing example of quality TV. Merely that the evidence that the viewers are all bigots who tune in to laugh at the 'freakshow' seems a little inconclusive.

True, but ask yourself - if Pete hadn't had Tourettes, or if Nadia had been born a woman rather than been transgender, would they still have won? Or would they just be ordinary boring contestants like the rest?

I don't doubt that there are plenty of decent open minded people who watch BB and who would accept those they meet for who they are and not judge them based on their differences.

But I don't think everyone who voted for them did so for those reasons. For me, there is a worrying feeling that for many people these differences are just entertaining - things that set the contestants apart that make them more interesting to watch than other housemates. Is Pete putting it on sometimes when talking to someone he doesn't like? Will Nadia fancy one of the guys and try it on with him? It becomes about their differences, not their personalities.

For some, it is just an extention of the freakshow they treat some people as been a part of already, rather than something that has the ability to teach people about things that they otherwise wouldn't learn about.

Some people cannot be told. Some people are just arseholes to those who are not like them, and shows like BB are providing them with just the kind of entertainment they love.

For all the supposed good the show does to educate the masses (and like I say, I'msure there are many different types of people who watch it, plenty of whom are smart and nice) it isn't worth it for the stupidity it feeds.

I'm sure you're right. In fact we both are. :)
But we'll never know the breakdown of the views of the BB audience.

I think the words you were looking for were "human being". Unattractive as he may be, he is not a "thing".

Infant school praised by Ofsted ‘for allowing its transgender pupils to express themselves’

Quote:
Schools are labelling children as young as four as ‘transgender’ simply because they want to dress up as the opposite sex.

No evidence that any children are being "labelled", just that schools are allowing children to do things that are not gender-typical.

Quote:
The unnamed school, where a quarter of pupils in reception class have same-sex parents or close family members in same-sex relationships

Bonus points for suggesting that having same-sex parents, or even being in close contact with teh gayz, is more likely to make kids transgendered.

Quote:
Controversy rages over when children are old enough to decide whether they are ‘transgender’. Studies suggest the vast majority who think they are the wrong sex will change their minds when they reach adolescence.

So? If a boy thinks he wants to be a girl and then grows out of it when he's 13, exactly what harm is done? And what's with the quote marks around the word 'transgender'?

Sounds good to me. It seems the school recognises gender is a social construct and is happy to let their pupils express themselves however they choose.
