BBC South East News quoted someone from the stand in UKBA team in France claiming that they caught twenty attempted illegal entrants (more than usual). It's far more likely that far more than usual tried to take advantage of the strike. Who knows how many succeeded?

The Mail are on a win-win. Strike is a "damp squib" if people are largely unaffected. What would they have reported if people suffered and/or died?

I think Sky News did a similar poll and 75% of people supported the strike at lunchtime.

It did and Damian Green, Immigration Minister did a no show for a studio interview. The talking head presenting the news said "perhaps he has gone on strike as well"

I wonder when this story will make it into the Mail.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/bbc/8927036/Jeremy-Clarkson-execute-public-sector-workers-says-BBC-Top-Gear-host.html

Real Dilemma for the Mail BBC presenter v Public sector strikers.

Here's the Mail's take on the story. Since it also reminds readers that Clarkson "called Gordon Brown a 'one-eyed Scottish idiot' and accused him of lying", clearly Clarkson and criticism of public sector workers trumps the BBC broadcasting potentially "offensive" material.

No dilemma at all - Clarkson walks on water cause he's a petrolhead and makes 'jokes' like that.

Looks like the Mail have cut and pasted the Telegraph article but added a few extra pictures and the quote about Brown.

Just spotted this bit in the Mail article.

Quote:
Left-wing blog Labour Matters encouraged viewers to complain to the BBC and posted contact details for the corporation on Twitter.

The Mail would never stoop to doing anything like that would they?

I was struck by the sizeable crowds in town today, it was rather like a Saturday and many people had kids with them. I got the impression that a lot of people had taken the day off because the schools were closed. I was rather depressed though when I noticed a lot of people in the crowd had grasped that something was very different today but had heard nothing about the strike and really didn't know what it was. Not a clue. If you'd told them Jordan was doing a book signing they'd have believed you.

How the fuck can people be taken by surprise by this? Don't they read papers and watch the news? Oh. That's just it, isn't it? :)

Well said Mr Prescott....
