Downing Streep: Meryl seen for the first time as Iron Lady Margaret Thatcher

Was I alone in having not heard about this?

Personally, the thought of an Americanised, glamourised, romanticised Thatcher is leaving me cold.

I still think of that one poster skit on Gone with the Wind.

Had this up too, although I must admit that at that age I like the fact that Crass swore as much as anything else.

The "Paid for out of our taxes" funeral doesn't seem to have dulled the love.

Maybe if she converted to Islam, or gay, or both.

Co-starring Javier Bardem as Leopoldo Galtieri, Rhys Ifans as Neil Kinnock, Velibor Topic as Mikhail Gorbachev, Alec Baldwin as Ronald Reagan and the guy who played the gay footman in Downton Abbey as Arthur Scargill. It'll be like a really disturbing version of Emmanuelle.

Damn. I used to really lust after Meryl Streep and all. There's nothing like being got up as Thatch for shrinking an incipient stiffie.

I think they should've called it quits with the excellent BBC4 version of her story. I'll always chuckle remembering a young Mark ask his mother "Mummy, can I go to Africa when I grow up? I promise I'll be good"

I couldn't help thinking of the Andy Hamilton version of events in Jeffrey Archer: The Truth.

That "Oooh, Jeffrey - the lady is for turning!" scene was just fundamentally wrong on several levels. :)

Apparently the Mail ran the story declaring it to be a "left-wing hatchet job". Probably not quite glowing enough in praise. As in only licked one shoe clean.
