Reggae band Inner Circle famous for "Girl I Wanna Make You Sweat" (you know the one). Guess what that song's about. Stick it in your big brown eye indeed.

Then there's Queen. 10 points for guessing what "Bicycle Race" and "Don't Stop Me Now" are about.

And that Chuck Berry. Filthy old sod. True story: as a primary school kid, I genuinely found My Ding-A-Ling to be just a silly comedy song and sang it quite often. My Dad had to explain diplomatically to me why this was NOT A Good Thing to do in public.

I know all of them. Do I win a prize? For aural filth you could throw in 'Pull up the the bumper by Grace Jones, or 'Cream' by Prince. They have barely disguised lyrics about the mechanics of sex acts.

Cool

Or "Jack U Off", where the mechanics aren't even disguised at all.

Erm, 'scuse me, but how is Jimmy, Jimmy about masturbation? That takes some serious bullshitting to get to - surely it's about a geeky schoolkid with few friends, gets pushed too hard by his family to succeed (academically or otherwise), ends up either having a breakdown or killing himself as a result (he's carted off in an ambulance at the end of the last verse).

Surely it was Teenage Kicks that was all about cracking one off?

Nothing remotely ambiguous about Max Romeo's 'Wet Dream' either. I reckon that to be the most overtly sexual song to reach the Top Ten.

Butcher Pete, I forget the artist who sung it, was about a serial rapist, I believe.

Those lyrics in full:

"Every night mi go to sleep mi have wet dreams
Every night mi go to sleep mi have wet dreams
Lie down gal let me push it up push it up lie down
Lie down gal let me push it up push it up lie down
Lie down gal let me push it up push it up lie down
Lie down gal let me push it up push it up lie down

You in your small corner, I stand in mine
Throw all the punch you want to, I can take them all

Lie down gal let me push it up push it up lie down
Lie down gal let me push it up push it up lie down

..Musical interlude

Look how you're big and fat, like a big, big shot
Give the crumpet to big foot joe, give the fanny to me

Lie down gal let me push it up push it up lie down
Huh, Lie down gal let me push it up push it up lie down
Lie down gal let me push it up push it up lie down
Huh, lie down gal let me push it up push it up lie down
Lie down gal let me push it up push it up lie down
So he said, lie down gal let me push it up push it up lie down
Huh, lie down gal let me push it up push it up lie down"

The 'You in your small corner...' bit does sound worringly rapey to me.

On a slightly different tack, I was surprised when a friend of mine - who considers herself quite the muso - admitted that she'd never twigged that Suzanne Vega's Luka was about domestic violence.

The Observer seems to have attracted a bunch of twits this morning. I thought I'd post this here as it's to do with "variant sexualities" and so on.

Among the Asexuals
http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/ ... e-asexuals

So, I got a bit grumpy when I saw the picture captioned (and the article on the front page) as "No sex, please..." (which I would argue is incorrect and misrepresenting asexuality - that seems more in-line with celibacy/abstinence), but I thought I'd go on, seeing as I tend to 'rest' on asexuality more often than not. I'm weird.

Anyway, I got to the comments, and I lost the will to go on.

In particular, there was stuff like:
"I don't get it. Why would someone without a sex drive masturbate?"
from someone called 'Beatsong'.

Profound ignorance permeates that comments thread.
