What was the point of including the word "lesbian" in the headline? Is it really relevant?

Apparently there are no lesbians in the Twilight Zone.

You can always rely on Mail readers to provide plenty of compassion with stories like this.

Quote:
Why is this headline news? Natwest has practically locked out all customers who can't get any money out and your running some tragic death of a person nobody knows about.

Why is it that chucklefuck here and the seemingly endless horde of prats that make similar comments on stories involving personal tragedy or something not relating directly to their pointless lives don't seem to realise that there can be more than one item in the news? It's the same as those morons on facebook who took it upon themselves to remind everyone that soldiers were dying in a war after the new broke that Whitney Houston had died. Idiotic funts.

It was more obvious before the lyric change (to get airplay?). The original lyrics were " I wanna hold IT, wanna hold IT tight, get teenage kicks right through the night".

Hmmm?

Found this little exchange on songfacts.com

Quote:
Apparently a song about masturbation. The original lyrics were : "I wanna hold IT wanna hold IT tight, Get teenage kicks right through the night".

Ian,
Your comment is nonsense. You probably read it in the Independent On Sunday who printed this rubbish at the weekend. The lyrics were never ever changed and John O'Neill who wrote the song would not write about masturbation. How do I know? I've looked after The Undertones affairs for the past 31 years.........
- Andy, London, United Kingdom

Now I know for a fact the The Undertones manager is still Andy Ferguson - so it could be him.

Bit of thread archaeology here.
Just found an old video containing Channel 4's Punk Top Ten from 1999. Fergal Sharkey is on camera explaining that the original lyric WAS as I quoted and it was about a Catholic boy's frustration at not getting the girl and consequent guilt at cracking one out over her instead.

The Mail seem to be pulling out all the stops to block plans for Gay Marriages.

Schools could be made to teach pupils about gay marriage once it is passed into law

No shit. Schools are meant to teach about real life, including gay marriage. Seems the fruitloops want to indoctrinate their offspring into being anti gay marriage rather than letting them make their own minds up.

No, it isn't. This is because the members of this forum (or at least, the vast majority of them) are adults capable of making up their own minds, and having their own opinions. We are not a hive mind. You should know this already because I am completely sure that you read all our posts properly before replying to them.

Martina Navratilova, 55, finds joy with 'instant family' as she becomes parent to her girlfriend's daughters

NB It took two hacks to write this article.

Quote:
She was at the peak of her legendary tennis career when most women settle down to become mothers.

Most? Settle down? Wouldn't that be a rather long peak?

Quote:
But at the age of 55 and after a string of tempestuous love affairs, Martina Navratilova has finally embraced motherhood.

She has become a parent to her girlfriend’s two young daughters, an arrangement she referred to as her ‘instantaneous family’.

So she's a stepmother. So far, so not newsworthy.

Quote:
The gay tennis star…

She's a woman with a girlfriend. We already know this.

Quote:
Raising the sensitive issue of motherhood, presenter Kirsty Young said that many high-profile gay couples have had children…

Sensitive issue? Don't talk to lesbians about children, it will cause a diplomatic incident.

Quote:
The star, who has had difficult relationships with ex-girlfriends including Toni Layton which ended in a legal battle, as well as another beauty queen, former Miss Texas Judy Nelson, admitted…

Such elegant prose!

Quote:
Miss Lemigova, the daughter of a Soviet army colonel, was first seen with Miss Navratilova just weeks after she had described her girlfriend as ‘drop-dead beautiful’

Dogwhistle. So far, no-one has bitten. But:

Quote:
She is not a mother. Those children have already a mother and nature teaches you can t have more than one. If I was a child in that situation I would escape from home . Please respect children rights and nature's laws. Only a man and a woman can make a child. The rest is against nature. Then love is another thing if you want to love someone of your same sex please don t put children in the middle. No one ask to them how they feel.

Naturalistic fallacy

I am sure the none biological parents, of any sexuality, are really glad to know that they aren't mothers and fathers.

Orphans are doomed.

"finally embraced motherhood".
As if all her time spent single, dating or, oh I don't know - been a successfull sportswoman - was her fighting against her actual female destiny, and she has now at last accepted so late in life what she as a female should have understod long ago was her real purpose.

Probably just a shame that she left it so late that she could not have her own, but that's her fault as well obviously.

Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee who wrote this can go spin on it.

Navratilova is gay?
Finger on the pulse again Daily Mail.

I can't wait for their weekend headline.
"Carthage falls to plucky seaborne invasion".

The programme in question was broadcast last Sunday. It's taken two of the Daily Mail's finest a full five days to cobble together that story. Up to the minute as ever.
