Richard Alleyne, the journalist who came up with the story, has form for iffy pseudo-scientific stories.

Also they've now complained to the PCC about the original stories and rightly so. The camera they rented even had the original Telegraph footage left on.

The Bishop of London is quite right to say that the protesters should move on

I'm not sure if this piece by some cleric called Mullen is a spoof article or not!! "Rabble?" I've read it a second time and can't decide!! Presumably if Jesus of Nazareth had been around with twelve of his rabble, he would have been asked to "move on, sunshine!" and he certainly would not have been allowed to overturn the table of the moneylenders in the temple. Mullen obviously misses this rather important point. As of course he would, as the resemblance is too close for the clerical mind to contemplate. This current "rabble" is against war, greed, capitalism and poverty, and I recall that the Nazareth bloke, in his more vocal moments, seemed to be against the same thing. Additionally, the first and time I visited this cathedral I was struck by the number of monuments, plaques and statutary that blatantly glorified war, the soldier and diverse military campaigns. Either Mullen is a very good satirist and should be writing for Private Eye, or else he's a complete fool.

AN Wilson of all people was arguing the opposite point to Mullen in The Standard.

I thought until today that the church was basically OK but had shown a bit of ham-fisted public relations. It looks more like Cannon Fraser was right and there are some unpleasant people running things.

I know we spend quite enough time reading a newspaper for ignoramuses, but The Sun's comments (mostly) undercut them:

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/ne ... empty.html

Bizarre assumption everyone's on benefits, as always. Somebody who says "simples", someone who wants to set fire to the tents, and someone evoking Christopher Wren- whose views on merchant banks aren't known to me. Someone who thinks the protestors, if they had their way, would increase world poverty. And someone evoking health and safety for what I guess is the first time in his life.

Plus the inevitable;

If the Protestors force St Pauls to close on Rememberance Sunday they will never be forgiven and wil be vilified by the whole population

Rabble without a cause: Mail undercover reporter at St Paul's finds a shambolic crew of pot-smoking part-time protesters who put partying before politics

Quote:
The 12th meeting of the General Assembly of the London wing of the international revolution against capitalism is not going smoothly.
The first item on the agenda relates to changing the banner that fronts the sprawling camp in the piazza surrounding London’s St Paul’s Cathedral.
It currently reads 'Capitalism is crisis’, but some demonstrators want it changed to: 'We are the 99 per cent.’ Unfortunately, there is a snag. Someone has nicked the banner.

The story still manages to carry the now widely dis-proven photos of the tents at night. Hatchet job springs to mind, not that I honestly expected much else.

I look forward to seeing how this plays out, the church removing Christians for doing what the church should've done from day one (that is, supporting the poor and disenfranchised, who are speaking out against the rich and somewhat evil).

Would the activists of Occupy London Stock Exchange have dreamed of causing havoc outside a mosque? Would the forces of law and order have stood idly by if an Islamic institution was under threat?
Of course, they wouldn’t – and neither would we expect them to.

*Sigh*

I won't be wasting my money on that rag again.

Why is it always "outside a mosque"? There are many religions practised in Britain but Christianity is only ever compared to Islam. Not that they're looking for a scapegoat or anything.

Because the Muzzies can say and do what they like (one law for "them") while Christians can't even say homosexuals are evil and are all going to hell any more.

Wouldn't most Muslims back a protest essentially against western banking practices and excessive financial gain by high earners.
