Oh. Noes. The comments are at one comment only so far but it's sure to get a whole chain of wanky, frothy arseholes in an absolute tizzy. Incidentally, how orange is that Yeo kitty-fucker?

Actually a very sensible policy. The first proper "green" policy the coalition has come up with.

And of course, it will have Tories frothing at the gash. Deep joy.

Remember, wear something wipe-clean when you're going back to that article for the inevitable wanky comments!

I've used a certain train quite often over the years and have always enjoyed tracking the spread of trends. Outside of a certain town it goes past a section where almost every 1980s house has an oversize conservatory. Years ago there were none and then one or two cropped up. Within a year there were more, shortly afterwards more again and the new ones were bigger and more overdone. Now virtually every house has one on this stretch. I guess it stands out because the back gardens are quite compact and the houses, although detached, are very, very close together - something like 5 or 6 feet apart. The density is more akin to a terraced area than even a row of semis. Somehow it looks bizarre, all of these modern rabbit hutch houses, technically detached but very, very squished together and almost all of them sacrificing the little scrap of space they have for an oversized conservatory. Perhaps predictably, it is unusual to see anyone using them. The ones that are used are always in use but the majority are just for show I guess.

I've seen a similar pattern on a patch of social housing which is adjacent to the same train line. One year a trampoline appeared, the next summer there were more and now you could bounce the whole length of the block without touching down. I do see one kid jumping on his trampoline. Always the same kid.

I don't think the new policy applies to existing conservatories.

I'd be surprised if it does.

Meanwhile, one of the Thai contingent seems to have problems with the government over there -

Not sure what it's got to do with the article, though.

The whole thing is a classic example of Mail manipulation of its readers. This is at present only a consultation exercise, so it may never become policy at all. It was issued three months ago, but it's taken the Mail this long to notice it. They clearly imply that putting in insulation could cost £10,000 when the reality is that, given all the subsidies available, it's around £300. They also imply it's going to be massively inconvenient for homeowners having to wait in for a succession of workmen, when anyone with a scrap of common sense gets all the work scheduled at the same time, probably by the same contractors.

And it's worked. There are people there getting hysterical about the prospect of having to replace insulation they already have - which manifestly won't happen - and thinking that you'll have to freeze to death because you can't get your boiler replaced without prior permission, which again is nonsense. And anyone posting anything vaguely reassuring or sensible gets massively red arrowed.
