'Honour' violence is acceptable, say one in five young British Asians

This is the third most popular comment, with over 1700 green arrows:

Quote:
Two thirds of asians do not therefore have the right to live in the UK if they can't accept British law or accept the British way of life.

- alanb, Clitheroe UK, 19/3/2012 7:28

2/3? Not quite 1/5 is it? And if you read the article the 1/5 figure is nonsense, with the overwhelming majority being against killings.

Given that the Mail would add the "not in favour" to the "don't know" to get 53% and claim that most people are against gay marriage, we can assume that Asians are "overwhelmingly against" honour killings with 80%

Peru makes minor show of support for Argentine sovereignty over the Falklands. Mailites have a calm, level-headed response.

We seem to dish out aid to most of the world if Peru is getting any it should be stopped immediately.
- Bev, Gillingham Dorset, 20/3/2012 7:37

Quote:
So that's the friendly welcome we receive when we have given so much to the country, including aid when they had a quake. Peru's response: british out of south america, my response: stick paddington where the sun don't shine.
- Tom, London, 20/3/2012 8:53

Pretty much all aid to Peru comes from the US or Spain - despite the fact that mailites seem to believe the UK is the world's only aid-donor and automatically shovels billions into anywhere that sounds a bit third-worldy.

Quote:
I would suggest boycotting Peruvian goods, but Peru doesn't appear to produce much. Except hot air and the occasional dictator.
- Amanda Jones, Manchester, UK, 20/3/2012 16:16

Yeah, Peru doesn't produce much - just things like gold, silver, coffee, cotton and sugar.

Quote:
Now if the brazilian government starts to play up, all we have to do is stop buying their coffee, boycott Nandos and place a visa requirement on all Brazilians wishing to visit this country.
- 6079 Smith W, Airstrip One, Oceania, 20/3/2012 11:29

I shouldn't think Brazil will be too bothered, seeing as Nando's is South African.

Quote:
Always wanted to go to Costa Rica and then Peru started calling as I have always wanted to see Machu Picchu/Nazca lines. I think my mind has now been made up.
- Dave, Hastings, East Sussex, England, 20/3/2012 9:27

Quote:
The responses on here are brilliant - really amusing and a tad tragic! And I've just cancelled plans to holiday in Peru this year, or any other year come to that, this year I'll take my money back to Cost Rica thanks
- disgusted, at home, 20/3/2012 11:13

I'm quite tempted to take a trip to Peru now, seeing as they're be no danger of running into Disgusted or Dave while I'm there. They might be a bit disappointed when they find out that Costa Rica is pro-Argentina too.

Then we've got this one advocating mudering a few Peruvians:
Quote:
We should sail past & fire a few shells their way. Nah just kidding ... Well actually no i'm not. I'm sick of this blame Britain attitude. We stick our oars into a lot of things for the betterment of this world & get little or no thanks. Granted in the past we haven't got things spot on, but on this, we are. This, like most battles, is about oil and/or bad tempered nations rattling the saber. Nothing more, nothing less. These countries need to tread carefully as in the future, their calls for aid or arms may go unheeded.
- cowboybert, Wales, 20/3/2012 12:12

...and this one, which sounds a lot like it wants to rape Kirchner:
Quote:
i fancy the argentina bird christina i want to put something in her mouth and say shut up

This comment was made when the headline read ''Honour' violence is acceptable, say two thirds of young British Muslims'. I'd wager that the change to ''Honour' violence is acceptable, say one in five young British Asians' was through a loss of nerve rather than a vague moral epiphany.

I'm amazed it was ever published. As I keep saying, Leveson (or someone) needs to look at what the right-wing papers allow up as comments.

Sort of foreigner-related - I've got this thing on Firefox that displays a little flag on the browser to show where websites are based. I don't know how accurate it is (and I have no ideas how servers work) but apparently Mailonline's server is based in Chile - which seems strange, seeing as the Mail is so against outsourcing stuff to foreign countries. Is there any way to check if that's true? I mean, it seems to be accurate with other websites...

It's true - hosted on the Augusto Pinochet memorial web server facility.

How many times a year does this story come up ffs?! Repeating it over and over isn't going to change anything.

BTW where I come from children who speak English at home are in a minority too, but they're white and British so I suppose that doesn't count.

Since it is unmoderated the comments are as horrible as you might imagine.

That might account for the time difference shown for posted comments.

Perhaps sly references to this can be introduced in comments in future.

Save it till Chile starts boycotting the Falklands.
Then we'l have em bang to rights for trading with the enemy.
