It was disconcerting enough noticing that the bloke giving me a lift to the New Year's Eve party I was at was carrying a copy of the Express when we met up (I'd previously thought of him as quite sane).

But it wasn't until after I'd spent said party making a fuss of another guest's Jack Russell and getting into what I thought at the time was a quite sensible discussion with her on cruelty to animals that someone told me that I'd been talking to a fully paid up member of UKIP.

(I realised with hindsight that she'd been strangely non-commital when we'd initially started talking - about gay marriage.)

Am starting to worry about myself. I feel dirty.

Isn't North Wales a fanatically white area? I'm surprised UKIP doesn't doorstep you weekly.

Given the number of people I've seen buying the DM or the Express (entire queues at the newsagent sometimes - I haven't seen an ethnic minority in this village the whole time that I've lived here), so am I.

But I don't think that Plaid Cymru would stand for another load of nationalists on their turf.

Migrants 'do not pull wages down' - Bank of England Report

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6232835.stm

It will be nice to see the spin the Mail and Express put on this - if they report it at all.

i glimpsed the headline "migrants lower wages" in the business section of the mail on the train today

Great hypocracy in the first comment on that article

Quote:
Pity they don't do this abroad for British ex-pats. Not a chance though! Other countries 'cherish their National identity' Welcome to Tony Blair Land!

- Steve. D., Milton Keynes, England.

1. Pity other countries are not doing this.
2. Our country is bad for doing this.

I've said this before, but it's worth saying again. There's a name for the political philiosophy that discounts capitalism because it discriminates soley on economic value and not on cultural or ethnic value. That word is National Socialism, ir Nazism for short.

Wouldn't it be more to the point to spend the money on English classes for these new arrivals?

No Margaret, the banks are doing it to attract more customers, using 'their money' and then they hope to make themselves more money.
Just goes to show that banks regard Poles as economically viable.
(I would post this to the DM but it wont get past the word 'No'.)

PS Would that be the English Middle Classes of your aspirations?

I don't think I'll ever understand people like this. Just how would Ryk be inconvenienced by this change? At worst, he might have to stand in a slightly longer queue - assuming he still uses a branch at all (I haven't been in a bank for years).

Some of the commenters are saying immigrants should learn English. The Poles I've met speak good English, but you're unlikely to pick up local specialist financial lingo like ISA, APR etc until you've been here for a while.

I know this is one of us, but why does this meaningless shit get posted when my comment pointing out that it's a commercial decision by an independent company that will live and die by its ability to make money for said company gets ignored?

I can only conclude (as I've done before) that the moderators are actually deliberately taking the piss out of their readers by continually demonstrating the depths of stupidity that Mail readers are capable of sinking to.

I considered that as well or the moderators are taking the piss out of the DM editorial line. I'm sure that not all journos are right wing bigots, well I hope..
