Rubbish, the system favours the privileged in terms of places at those institutions.

You mean like taking Prince Charles with 2 A-levels, a B and a C? Would they take a binman's son with those grades?

There's a good FT blog about how they decide on places

90% of the public could care less about a pompous boat race. It's a chance for the rich to moan about those below them 'ruining' their day out.

I thought we'd gone over this at last week's meeting.
More of this nonsense and David Mitchell will turn up, and you know what happens then.

that's a good year imho.

I think you have a point. Add in some danger and crashes, you might get a sport popular enough for Sky to bid for.

But it's not illegal though, is it? Fucking stupid but not against the law.

Stupid.

He had no right to interfere in other people's business like that. Mind you there is the self righteousness of the comments where people, ironically, use this episode to draw attention to their 'causes' too....

You could argue that they are already interfering in our business by dint of their unearned power?

More I think about it, with the toffery it seems like a minority affecting the majority.

I have little against most, I think they can't help being born into riches and privilege (just as we can't help being working class), but it's the ones who see fit to try and run this country who do the damage.

Well if someone decides to interrupt someone's football game in a public park, in order to make the point that they have just as much right to be in that spot as someone has to play football there then that's their call.

For me, that would be a stupid thing to do as there is no point to this action, except to make a dickheaded point about public rights. I would prefer not to take this course of action as I would not be able to complain if someone interfered with my enjoyment of public places.

I think the defining characteristic between your football game and their boat race is accessibility. You, presumably, wouldn't be that bothered if someone asked to have a kick around with you. Good luck entering your rubber dinghy in the boat races though.

If I asked someone to join their football game and they said no then I would respect their decision. I would not go on and spoil their game for the hell of it.

But what if they told you not to play anywhere in the park because they've always used that set of posts? And the police backed them up and asked you to leave the public place.

You know, I think it would have been more entertaining if he had been commanding a mini-sub that popped up, strafed the boats and the spectators with machine-guns and then blew himself up. But I'm just weirdly witchy that way.

Nah. He should have devised a manoeuvreable submersible river craft armed with highly accurate shite bombs to launch at the muscular privileged in the racing canoes.

We want to avoid the whole death thing if possible. Trust me, shite bombs are the future. Number sevens.
