but she writes for the mail, isn't that reason enough to have a go at her

So there was no reason to bring up the abortions....

FFS it doesn't matter why she had the abortions. She is not clever, in other words thick, for having had them. It can't just apply to her, all women that have had abortions must be thick. And women who shag on the first date are 'slags'.

It's more about numbers. How many and by what age. We do seem to always be at the top of the teenage pregnancy league (and other not always desirable ones). Some say it's lack of education but I never found it a hard concept to grasp and I had trouble grasping the principle of the wheelbarrow. There's a number of women who have as many as five abortions. I'm not religious as I say, and I don't wish to appear too Right-wing (because I'm not) but I'm not too cowed to say I do have concerns about the unborn and abortions on the current industrial scale.

if you (graun) want to critisice her writing, fine. if you want to critisise the perticular way she's written about her abortions, then (and i can't state this part strongly enought) provided you supply quotes, then you may do that also.

but just to attack her, to label her stupid, and a "slag", on the basis that you know she has had abortions, no.

Get the FULL quote for the slag reference.

Quote:
Shriek-Porter always goes on about how clever she is. She had two abortions by the time she was 19. How clever is that eh? She was on TV a while back promoting her latest book F*ck You! (or whatever) she was decrying women you don't shag on the first "date". Like there's something wrong with waiting a couple of days. The slag.

presumably you mean to imply you only meant "slag" in regards to the first date thing. the fact that you'd used a new sentance made me think you were applying it to your whole post. for this confussion i'm sorry.

now, your turn to quote ANY of the stuff she said.

Women who shag on the first date aren't slags, they're women who fancy a shag with the person they're shagging.

I 'did it' on the first date - I've been with my husband for almost nine years now. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't still be with me if he thought I was a slag. Anyway, I could equally call him a slag - takes two to tango!

Quotes? It was on telly. I'm sure it will all be in her books and more

well, seeing as no one else saw any of these tv appearances (and you presumably cannot provide clips either) i suggest dropping the matter entirely.

i shall simply remid you that in the future stick to criting things other people can access. either recent tv (that people may have actually seen), or things you can quote fully. otherwise there is nothing anyone here can take from it and it's impossibly to actually discuss, which, as this is a discussion board is a bit of a no.

unless you can actually find a quote from the book, or another from around it's release.

Good point. But top of their agenda was to carry on with the totalitarian tactic of expressing outrage at every opportunity and then demanding my banning. That harmless joke was a perfectly good example, with the ludicrously tedious posts that followed.

That's TWO moderators who were on the verge of banning you, Guardy. Stop playing the martyr, you're fooling no one.

Oh, and - only "stupid" women have abortions? Condoms split, Guardy. Medications have imperfections. The rhythm method? Don't even go there.

The point is, pregnancy - wanted or unwanted - is something that can happen to pretty much any woman, not just the "stupid" ones. And your idiot flippancy towards the fact that a woman has had two abortions without knowing anything of what she may have gone through is a pretty contemptible way of addressing it.

Mind how you go on that tightrope.

All true, but maybe she just didn't want a child. Whatever the reasons it's none of our business and she did the right thing.

Anyway, it's all okay because

It was a joke! Just a harmless joke.

Laugh at the funny man everyone. Ha ha ha.

Some women simply don't want to have a baby at a particular point in their lives, or even not at all.

It's called women having choices and control over their own bodies.

Guardian, if you don't want to come across as too right wing, stop coming out with a lot of anti-abortion shite.

And I'll be leaving for good soon if the arguing doesn't pack in soon. Moonshein at least sometimes engages in debate, Guardian came across from the start as an argumentative tosser and has soured the atmosphere on too many threads.

You're right on that. I like a good row as much as anyone, but this is just destroying the board. Time the moderators grew a pair. But I think I'm out of here, at least for a while, as well.

Laugh at the funny man everyone. Ha ha ha.

By the way, the joke I was referring to was the nail hammering one - that caused such an outrage.
