Not the Mail vs Cameron, but some of the commenters vs both Camerons. Normally I would probably also say this was a case of extraordinary people doing ordinary things, so well done but nothing out of the ordinary; but since they lost a child last year you would think that most people would wish them well with the new one, whoever they were. Needless to say, some Mail commenters can't find it in their nasty, shrivelled, bitter hearts even to do that, and even worse, they feel the need to say so. Some of them really are lower than slugs and as I have done several times before, I wonder just what sort of pleasure it gives them to be so gratuitously and unnecessarily unpleasant.

I genuinely feel there are some people out there who have been suckling off the Mail's teets for so long that the compassion and joy in their souls has shrivelled and died, turning them into hollow, reactionary, shit-brained morons. Much like a smoker slowly has the life sucked out of them the longer they continue their addiction, so it is with the Mail.

One of the most powerful paradigms of Mailism is the dehumanising of certain people, whether they be public figures, whole groups of people or the occasional member of the public who gets the Mail treatment. They are seen as literally not-human, so deserve no 'normal' feelings extended in their direction.

I can't imagine not congratulating a couple on the birth of a much-wanted child, especially a couple in the Camerons' position of having lost a son so recently. But then I can't imagine being so emotionally stunted as to see my fellow men and women as mere ciphers to be hated with impunity.

That's it in a nutshell. Which also colours peoples ideas on other people and specifically on what should be done with them.

Hang criminals - because they aren't human therefore their deaths are irrelevent.
Deport all immigrants - because they aren't human therefore it won't matter if they suffer elsewhere.
Sack all politicians - because they aren't human and as such don't need to support families or have jobs.
Lock up all Muslims - because they aren't human therefore they shouldn't complain, and should be grateful anyway.

I was just explaining how the new PM Nick Clegg will also go far if he can ditch a couple of the faceless beaurocrats that seem to tag along with him, when Dave's wife took a funny turn and started clutching her stomach.

Their large friends were very helpful and whisked them straight off, presumably for a dose of liver salts.

After the they'd gone, the sherry-vendor told me that they were actually getting along quite well in politics, and that Dave chap was expected to do big things.

Can't see it myself, seemed nice though.

That's debatable. Many would argue that the Lib Dems have largely been nodding dogs. Also, when will people get it into their heads that their party did not win a majority at the election so therefore they need the Lib Dems unless they want to form a minority Government and risk another election. I think the Lib Dems need to show some balls and stop being treated like an inconvenience.
