Oh. My. God.

There are actually people who think The Tudors (the BBC costume bonkfest) was history, apparently. David Starkey has a lot of work to do.

Some of those comments are seriously bonkers.
I detect the hint of history teacher irony which has been remembered as fact...

On behalf of history teachers, I think you'd better.

And to think they used to tell me Jean Plaidy was frivolous....

The Mail's relationship with history is laughable.

I much prefer the Blackadder version of history.

Came to this a bit late, there's a bizarre comment on that Anne Boleyn story

I presume by Henry Tudor he means Henry VIII, although Henry VII was more commonly also known by his surname, being the first Tudor king and, er, having nothing whatsoever to do with Anne Boleyn. Anyway, at least he didn't bugger off overseas eh Michael?

And he can't even spell Boleyn!!!!!

The fact that the Mail uses BBC to convey messages to its readers for accessibility purposes is laughable. What's that about dumbing down and getting no use out of historical dramas that lack accuracy? Hypocrites.

Has anyone mentioned the fact that she had 11 fingers and 12 toes?

Thought not...

(And Henry VIII was English, it was VII who was sort-of Welsh).

dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-1298569/Britain-need-make-apology-India-Empire

as a history graduate, i can't believe how shocking this piece is. A piss poor defence of the british empire. According to this writer, you can wholly compare the united states and india - despite the us being a settler colony - and colonisation was fine because some of the indian elite were actively involved in governing the colony. And of course, the writer is of indian descent, so that makes it ok.

I hate these sort of articles where they try and argue that the british empire was justified because it brought progress. What are we to believe? That every 10 miles of railroad laid by the british cancelled out the death of 1 local person? Or the fact that some former colony's political institutions can trace their roots to the empire makes the oppressive rule of the british acceptible 'on balance'?

Mind you, they may not know much about Anne Boleyn but they understand the Tudor penal code pretty well -

"''Unfortunately this is England the land of freedom'' If this happened in an Asian, or Islamic country they would be stoned to death; In Africa they would be turned into human torches(burnt to death). Despicable scum-bags, people like these should be hanged in castrated then public to deter other abusers.
- A SHOCKED MUM, England bring back The Tower of London, 3/8/2010 "

2053 in the green. Yes, that's 2053 people who think burning alive and hanging, drawing and probably quartering are not such bad ideas for people they really, really don't like. I expect to see crucifixion suggested very soon.
