That, and more or less the entire history of popular music.

Although I do fondly remember there being a huge moral outrage at Britney's 'Baby One More Time' video. Then Ms Aguilera came along in her thong and ass-less chaps and raised the bar for everyone. T'was indeed a great time to be an adolescent :D

Also conveniently forgets Alison Moyet's 'Love Resurrection', Simply Red's 'The Right Thing' and an awful lot of the Prince back catalogue, most notably 'Darling Nikki'. And for sexual imagery, look no further than the Duran Duran videos 'Girls on Film' and, especially, The Chauffeur', which introduced many girls and boys to the concept of lesbianism.

I managed to get in a well deserved "Won't somebody think of the children?" on that story. A textbook DM story merits a textbook comment!

Reminds me of Harry Enfield's Smashie discussing the Frog Chorus:

Quote:
"Now, McCartney, we don't want to hear about your bums! We want nice clean wholesome pop music! I'm banning this record. Now here's Frankie Goes to Hollywood with Relax!"

Or something like that...

Good to see the depths of the bould Mr Stock's pool of musical references has remained pretty consistent, anyway.

'Cos no Stock Aitken Waterman acts have ever got naked in public or used a bit of nudity/sexual imagery in their videos or songs, have they? *cough* Samantha Fox, Sinitta, Kylie, the Steps video with the naughty nurses, etc... *cough*

Quote:
'Before children even step into school, they have all these images - the pop videos and computer games like Grand Theft Auto - confronting them and the parents can't control it.'

Yeah, so many under-5s play 18-rated games, don't they?
Quote:
'They were quite happy to put their kids in front of the telly to watch Hannah Montana but recently Miley Cyrus [who played Montana] has shown off her maturing body.'

And which "family paper" printed the pictures?

I could do a very long rant about the hypocrisy of the music business with regards to children and sex, starting with Jerry Lee Lewis.

Lady GooGoo, sorry GaGa, is shit full stop. She's all about the silly outfits she wears and her songs are just bland bland bland.

In other words, she's every fucking "pop sensation", ever.

Also, it's pretty funny to hear a man who happily took coin to produce records for Sam Fox and the Fat Slags complaining about sexualised pop music. It's apparently grand if it's paying his bills.

Well, Gary Glitter is ostracised and rightly so. According to one commentator "Paedophilia has no place in rock'n'roll." And so it hasn't.

Except.....

Rock'n'roll in its many forms is about sex, outrage and youth. And them together and what have you got?

Jerry Lee Lewis and his cousin. Elvis meeting Priscilla when she was 14. Chuck Berry. Bill Wyman and Mandy Smith. Bow Wow Wow and Annabelle's topless album cover aged 14. Pete Townsend. Samantha Fox on kids programmes. Jonathan King's many aliases and production credits still getting airplay. Hit Me Baby One More Time. None of these are banned.

Even Cliff was deemed risque to sections of the media (probably the Mail included) in his early days. This general story is as old as the hills, i.e. moral outrage at current pop stars.
