Since the waltz was considered debauched, its far older than pop music

Oh well, if Bel, with her prissy little finger-to-face photo, belief in angels and searing hatred of her ex-husband says it, it must be true. God, I hate that column.

Interesting choice of pics to accompany the article. Shouldn't there be a warning on the front of the newspaper about this child unfriendly content?

they'd have said the same about:

mods
rockers
hippies
punks
metal
hip hop

(and probably classical music and jazz too if they had a chance)

According to Spartacus educational's article about the Mail (http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/Jmail.htm):

Quote:
After the war Northcliffe retained his interest in new technology. He began a campaign to promote wireless communication by arranging for the Daily Mail to sponsor the world's first wireless concert. In an editorial Northcliffe argued: "Once before the Daily Mail stirred the national imagination to realise the vital importance of flying. It has now taken the lead in private wireless experiments with the object of cultivating national receptivity for the new science and of bringing minds in train for achievements to come."

I'd bet the prize money it wasn't a ragtime or jazz concert :D

If wireless were invented now, the DM would be printing endless articles about how it causes cancer, is rotting our brains and is responsible for virtually every crime committed.

Bel Mooney and angels - here's the link to the notorious article:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/artic ... eings.html

Hilariously, she then wrote another one about how nasty the nasty people who don't believe in angels had been to her about it. Quite upset she was:

As to being married to a Dimbleby - the rat not only left her for another woman, he didn't go back to her when his fancy woman died. He found another, much younger woman, married her and now has a kid by her. Meanwhile the delectable Bel married a younger man. You'd think that would be it, but she's still obsessed with hubby no 1 and even the Mail commenters have noticed:
