Looks like her child is sitting at the table next to hers, not that close, but probably close enough to be getting some of the smoke.

Would anyone really be so stupid as to blow smoke into the face of a kid sitting inches away, particularly when the paparazzi were around? I doubt it. Looks like the photo has been manipulated. Although yes, the kid might be getting some smoke even if he's on the next table.

It's an extreme telephoto shot, which tends to reduce visually the distance between objects relative to the lens. The smoke looks 'shopped, though.

Why would they do that though? OK, I understand that 'woman blows smoke in toddler's face' is more of a headline than 'woman has fag in same general area as toddler' but I fail to see a) the news value and b) why on earth they would so blatantly mislead the readers (and yes, I know it's the Mail)

If I was Billie Piper I'd be complaining to them in pretty strong terms

it looks though they've (as you said) taken a shitty long len photograph and have attempted to make it look "better" by running it through some filters, like the sharpen filter, which the mail have good form with both abusing and failing to understand (no, it is not like the magic "enhance" button in csi, as soon as you start manipulating the picture its just going to stop being unclear and become misleading).

i'm surprised they've not gotten in trouble for this trick before, in the past they've insinuated lilly allen was on coke because you could "see" it on her nose after they'd fucked about with the shapener and contrast on a crappy flash bulb photo.

I bet the fact it doesn't cast a shadow and floats an inch above the ground is a real selling point for that lawnmower.

But the top picture looks like it could be genuine (ie the shadows all go the same way if nothing else). Which would mean that the Mail snapper took someone who had been 'banned' from mowing in a cemetery back to said cemetery to photograph him mowing it...

And, of course, the sting is in the tail - he isn't considered dangerous, he just isn't insured, and being untrained and not responsible to anyone he might just make a mighty cock of it, or mow his own feet or something, and then there'd be problems with com-pen-say-shun.

Plus he's a bit of a twat*

I like the way the second picture's posed to imply that the subject of the story has personally grown all the flowers in front of him, rather than their being the conveniently-placed products of a recent funeral and paid for by other people.

I also like the way that the Mail has used Nanfister's hi-hi-hilarious bit of sub-kindergarten wordplay in the headline again. They're really trying to get that shit to catch on, aren't they? Pitiful.

I'm not sure if it is really, but she seems to have but 5 on each foot in the pics yet 6 on the close ups....

Not really the DM's Photoshop, but here's a classic case of denial.

Reminds me of the up-to-date pictures that illustrate their own columnists...

Haselhoff as Captain Hook on stage with Louie Spence who plays very camp, cabin boy, Roger

They've actually called him Roger the cabin boy? Is this true or has the Sub Editor been having a laugh by squeezing in a cheeky reference to the old Captain Pugwash urban myth?

*EDIT*

I've just checked the Wimbledon Theaters website.

Quote:
New Wimbledon Theatre is thrilled to announce the biggest pantomime cast to date to celebrate the theatre's 100th birthday. Global mega-star David Hasselhoff will alternate the role of Captain Hook with legendary chat show host Jerry Springer in Peter Pan. Starring alongside will be the star of Pineapple Studios Louie Spence who plays the cabin boy, Roger.

Well done to the writers of that one!
