Will be interesting to see if/how this gets covered by the shitrag press:

UN votes against protecting gays from execution
http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2010/11/un-v ... execution/

Quote:
The UN has removed a reference to sexual orientation from a resolution condemning arbitrary and unjustified executions.

The UN General Assembly resolution, which is renewed every two years, contained a reference opposing the execution of LBGT people in its 2008 version. But this year's version passed without any reference to gay rights after a group of mostly African and Asian countries, led by Mali and Morocco, voted to remove it.

Gay rights groups fear the move -- which passed in a narrow 79 to 70 vote -- will act as a signal that persecuting people for their sexual orientation is internationally acceptable.

I really can't even put into words how this makes me feel

I have no idea - even the liberal press seem to be completely ignoring it!

true, no peep from the grauniad.

the whole thing is very worrying, did the uk ever overturn the rule about not granting asylum on the basis of sexuality? i think i remember that happening last year (with a predictable mail outcry). cause this is going to increase the need of those sorts of sexuality sensitive asylum policies (not sure if that's an eu requirement?).

Sometimes wonder what the point is in the bloody UN :(

Why should the council be held to ransom by the medieval views of certain countries?

Sadly, it's called democracy. But still disgraceful.

There is also a resolution to prevent any criticism of religion:

I'm not sure if anyone else saw the story about the Association of British Muslims condemning the move and demanding it be reversed.

Somehow, I think that may have even less coverage than the original story.

I certainly didn't; thanks for posting the link. I wonder if that was in the Mail or Express? Hmm... :(
