Some of the comments are unbelievable - the USA gave Europe democracy? I don't know where to start debunking that one, apart from maybe the Ancient Greeks...

It's hard to keep a good idea down ... it was inevitable that this movement spreads to Europe. This is just like Democracy's spread in the late 18th century from the newly formed United States, to Europe toppling monarchs in the process.

I’m comfortable with the Tea Party movement. That’s because it demonstrates … that fundamental freedoms still underpin the USA: if you want to start, support or work for a political movement, then you are free to do so.

It appears the author is totally ignorant of how the Tea Party started and what it is. That’s puzzling because it has been investigated and reported by many sources, e.g.:

The Tea Party is a corporation-created club for ‘useful idiots’ – people who can be easily manipulated to act and vote against their own best interests for the benefit of billionaires. The Tea Party is the opposite of a demonstration that “that fundamental freedoms still underpin the USA” – it’s a prime example that democracy in the US is paid for, polluted and twisted – more plutocracy / corporatocracy than democracy.

And it should frighten any right-thinking person. The Kochs are sociopaths – their only concern is protecting and adding to their fortune, no matter the costs to society and the planet. Their network of ‘think tanks’ and bough-and-paid-for politicians now have significant political power – this is not a cause for celebration or “comfort”.

The Tea Party movement appears to be the one world government movement. The smaller government stance is a deception. The Tea Party isn't just sticking with economic matters but now is a social movement world wide of biblical proportions. Speaking about one state religion that violates our 1st Amendment Rights, challenging the 14th Amendment and trying to do away with all abortions under all conditions sounds a lot like government telling me what I have to believe, and violating my privacy rights. What is wrong with everyone? Why can't you see this is evil? I will never support this movement. Never!

No gay marriage – Homosexuality makes me uncomfortable (due to misguided religious influence or poor upbringing or both) so gay people should be punished because of my beliefs. Stoopid homos…

No welfare, food stamps or Medicaid – I’m not poor enough to qualify for these programs so my tax dollars shouldn’t pay for it. Stoopid poor people and by poor I really mean black…

No health care reform – Why should I help pay for other people who are sick when I’m not? Stoopid sick people…

No environmental protection – Environmental laws makes things more expensive for me and that’s bad. I also don’t understand the concept of long term impact; I want cheap gas and gadgets now! Stoopid…ah, you get the idea…

Don’t raise my taxes – EVER. The government can find its own money to pay for stuff.

Medicare – Young conservatives: Why should I help pay for old people and the disabled? Older conservatives: Keep your government hands off my Medicare!

Social Security – Young conservatives: Sacrifices need to be made, people should take care of themselves, not depend on handouts from people like me. Older conservatives: Sacrifices need to be made BUT DON’T YOU TOUCH MY SOCIAL SECURITY!

No abortion – The government should tell women what to do with their bodies because I don’t like abortion.

No prayer in school? – GOVERNMENT OVERREACH!! I like The Jesus™ so everyone should have to listen to my prayers. No Muslim prayers, though. That’s indoctrination.

This list goes on for some time. The more I thought about it, the more obvious it became. A conservative society is a borderline sociopathic society.
