Yes, but probably not in the way he means...

The civil payments will do /should do nothing to influence the CPS bringing potential criminal charges and, as the days grow longer, it looks increasing likely that he will need to take the stand again just as he did in the Tommy Sheridan perjury trial. Yes, perjury, that one.

I actually believe Coulson did know nothing about phone hacking.

After all, no-one would seriously admit to being the single worst newspaper editor ever to have tried to edit a newspaper by choice, would they?

Well, given the choice between that and the slammer...

After all, it's NoTW. No-one's expecting Woodward and Bernstein.

Having finally watched 10 o'clock live I agree that the NOTW came across as a total arsehole and you know Prezza superbly demolished the scumbag

For me, he had no actual counterarguments and almost immediately fell back on trying to discredit his opponent by bringing up Prescott's infidelity at the first opportunity and trying to bait him with it - even down to name-checking the woman involved.

I looked at those two panelists initially and thought that it could go either way, or wind up with both sides looking ridiculous, in much the same way as putting Jack "They all look the same to me" Straw in on QT with Nick Griffin. But those personal attacks not only gave Prescott the audience's sympathy - they basically did his job for him.

Christ, there's a line, a line of expected shittery but this... This is unbelievable. When I first saw it on twitter I was trying to think where I knew the name "Milly Dowler" from....which reality TV show she'd been on. Then the horrible, sickening truth dawned on me.

Be nice to see Littlejohn try and frame this as something of little public interest now...

Just seen a report from Brian Cathcart that, in the last hour, all of the Sun's Milly Dowler stories have been taken off their website.

He (or David Allen Green) had previously called for analysis of red-top stories about high-profile murders to find elements that could have come from phone hacking...

Most of the tabloids aren't reporting the story, at least on the available front pages.

Delicious to see that The Guardian are not reporting these as allegations in parentheses but going balls-out on it.

This also destroy the rather tenuous defence that they, NI, appeared to be preparing in that the interception of voicemails is only illegal if they have not hitherto be listened to by the intended recipient. It has now been proven beyond all reasonable doubt that Miss Dowler was in fact dead at the time so they are going to think up another wheeze pretty fucking sharpish.

And what of those media organisations that churned the stories? Ignorance is no defence. Thankfully.
