On TV now moaning about the "disenfranchised" countryside under Labour and slagging off people who think hunting is cruel were childish and unreasoning.
Tony Blair wanted to turn the countryside into a themepark, blah, blah. Yep no farm subsidies under Labour.
You lost a few elections. Get over it.
matthew sweet on the other hand, went up significantly in my estimations (not that i actually disliked him before):
"the countryside alliance, not so much a political movement, just the wingeing sound the right makes when it's not in power"
"clarrissa dickson wright is the telegraph readers fantisy of what woman of the british countryside used to be, a figure of absolute reliability and stoisism, and intollerance, and rudeness and other qualities we admire in this country for some reason"
on a related matter, can anyone explain her hated of otters? i may disagree with "country folk" over the issues of foxes and badgers, but i do understand where their position comes from (killing chickens, spreading tb) but...otters? anyone?
