'I was going to buy a book i want to read but then again there's that royal wedding and there's a chance i might forget how to read due to the hysteria'

The McCanns remind me of the Bulger parents.Yes a horrible thing happened,but by allowing it to define them they have shown an amazing lack of empathy for their other children and a need for publicity that seems very unhealthy.

The difference (as I see it, feel free to disagree) is that Denise Feargus was not media-savvy, had a heartfelt concern (the length of her son's killers' sentances, the protection afforded to them after their release) and wasn't particularly articulate, thus let tabloid journos* talk for her and transform her into a spokeswoman for seemingly every bereaved/aggrieved parent. Also, crucially, what happened to her son was beyond doubt - he was abducted and killed, and her issue was with the treatment of the guilty, not the actual investigation.

Kate and Gerry McCann on the other hand knew how to use the media to the best advantage, and played on the human interest aspects of the case to keep it in the public spotlight. While not downplaying their experience, they used the media circus to their advantage (to the point where it may well hve terminally damaged the investigation and rendered it impossible to achieve closure short of Madeline walking in on them), arguably played the victim card repeatedly, and unintentionally reinforced the hierarchy of victimhood and inspired morons such as Karen Matthews. It's also worth underlining that it's still unclear what exactly happened to Madeline McCann, let alone by whom.

*Crucially ones from the Sun, looking to restore a bit of Murdoch-popularity on Merseyside.

That may be fair comment about Jamie Bulgers mother originally,but I was in Liverpool 5 years ago,where they had organised a minutes silence in memory of his death,with the agreement of the parents.What does that serve except to enhance their statement of victimhood.

So if that was a lie, why should we believe that there was ever a 'Carol', who hasn't come forward gasping to be in the tabloids being congratulated for her heroism in trying to remove a child from the forrins in charge of it, or a child who might possibly have looked something like Madeleine, or a photo (that hasn't been published)?
