The comments on that EDL article appear to be unmodderated and a shit storm from Knuckledragger Central - Cameron is a racist, socialist just like Blair etc etc and there's at least one clown pledging his vote to the EDL at the next election. :roll:

As for the way that (some) people write on facebook, I can only speak for the North East, but they are simply writing as if they were speaking (Like the old 'Larn yarsel' Geordie' phrasebook). They are simply putting their speech sounds into word and letter formations that would make sense to their own 'group'.

When I read statements like the ones you posted from the Sunderland banter change I hear a mackem accent as I read them.

Of course it is. Plus, I suppose, there are strong anti-intellectual and class conscious factors. Language has always been one of the most powerful unifying forces for any beleaguered minority.
