If Hari had kept his job and award, I suspect I would be calling for his head - editing Wikipedia is really, really fucking stupid. As it is, he's already been suspended, given his award back voluntarily, is doing a humiliating basic journalism course and has more or less shafted his own career by being a class A pillock. No matter what he does, no one will ever take him seriously again.

So now that's said, how come shits like Littlejohn, Jan Moir, Hitchens etc. don't have the decency to apologise when they get caught lying and don't get suspended? Oh yes that's right, because they have no scruples and nor do their employers.

I agree. Also he is/was viewed as a proper, serious journalist, unlike Littlejohn or Moir, so in my view that's why he's getting a lot more flak than they ever have.

Johann Hari is caught out spouting bullshit, gets suspended, is forced to issue a page long apology which is the put in a prominent place in the i and the independent and then has to attend a journalism course and will spend the rest of his career being second-guessed and double checked. Melanie Philips gets caught out spouting bullshit, gets the arse sued off her by the people she's libelled, and not only can't even muster a teeny-weeny apology squashed between lots of ads for stanna stairlifts that no one will read but STILL has a column in one of the largest national newspapers in the country, publishers prepared to print her twaddle in books and is invited for tv/radio engagements. Both Hari and Philips are serious journalists- only one has been punished in any way for what they've done. So no, I'm not going to get all outraged that Hari's not been sacked, just like I'm not outraged by Gideon Osbourne having sexy funtimes with hookers and cocaine in the 80s and being in government despite this (it wouldn't be an issue at all as far as I'm concerned were it not for the fact that the Tories have crap policies regarding "the war on drugs" that make its MPs into giant flaming hypocrites). People fuck up- it's how they react after that counts.
