... only been waiting 34 years for this.

The Guardian. Labour conference: 16-year-old boy steals show with impassioned speech

For comparison - don't watch if you have a medical condition.

Meh... the boy did well but I can't really relate to 16yr olds that are not surly, angry, complete card-carrying Anarchist nutters. But there you go!

You know it'll end up in a mess of poorly chosen baseball caps and ugly rumours about shared rooms.

Those boys (and it always is boys) ought to be having fun while they still have a chance.

Because now would be the time to get him, from the Mail's point of view. If they can find him doing anything normally daft for a 16 y-o (or even anything they can make up) they'll crucify him. That's they way they work.

I'm sure the mobile phones of everyone he's ever known have already been hacked.

Or they will just point out his tie is a bit disjointed. It's the best speech I've seen at conference.... bar the one when that Union guy ripped up the Sun or some woman called the Tories a bunch of cunts (They usually happen when you least expect it).

I'm not really a labourite, but I liked the speech. He seemed like he actually gave a shit. I never really get that impression from our 'real' politicians. It wasn't a 'I'll look down on these people and make it look like I'm improving their life so that they vote for us' type of speech, it was a 'this situation is wrong, it's hit me hard and I want to change it' speech. Fair play to him. He clearly cares about what he's saying, hopefully the rags won't get their claws into him.

The Mail has now picked up on the story. The report itself is fine, but some of the comments ...

Moderated. Hardly worth trying to get a comment in. This is probably the strongest that's allowed.

Yes. The house he lived in was repossessed – under a Labour government! - Aquarius, London, 27/9/2011 9:31 -------------- Governments don't repossess homes, banks do. He's not blaming the government for taking his house, he is thanking the government for the welfare state that allowed him to continue his education. The welfare state is currently being dismantled by the coalition, meaning people like him will have no chance in future. Hope you now undertsand his point.

Keep on hoping, Mike, but don't hold your breath while doing it.

I spoke too soon. While that report is fine, this, as well you might expect from Mad Mel, is spiteful and is absolute shite.

Picking on a 16 year old...... How pathetic.

Most of the comments are horrid but this is amusing...

What a foul and disgusting woman Melanie Phillips is.

What message is being sent out by this self-righteous bitch to the young people of Britain? Should they just not give a fuck about anything? Perhaps if they are 'lefties' they should leave the politics of the country solely to those upstanding beacons of socital bliss on the right (read as hate spewing bigots) because what they think or do is the only right way?

God forbid a child grows up passionate enough to want to represent the Labour part in later life! I imagine he has more ambition than Mel, who has clearly resigned herself to a bitterly depressing fate of preaching to a readership of knuckle draggers that anyone who deviates even slightly from the agreed political angle of the Daily Mail is inherently wrong.

She's a bully and a cow.

And off they go:

The child star of the Labour conference and the truth behind his 'life of poverty'
