There's subtly playing to the gallery which Merton does, and there's turning to them practically holding a sign up saying "Aren't I clever?" which Hislop does. I also get really irritated by that trick of turning his head right over his shoulder and looking upwards when he's saying something cynical.

That used to really really annoy me, although I think hes toned it down lately.
Whenever I see Mickey Flanagan on panel shows, he seems to do a similar thing - he says something and looks at the audience as if to say, "yes, you may laugh now, plebs." I might add him to the punchable faces thread now...

Mickey Flanagan's local to where I live and I've seen him a couple of times. He's likeable enough on stage, but I haven't seen him on TV.

Thought Hislop gave her stupid opinions exactly the level of contempt they deserved. I'd quite admired her for her response to dirt-digging during the Hackgate business, but on Friday she just came across as more bothered about her party's reputation than being entertaining on the Fox business, and contemptibly sneering and dull-witted on the protest business.

Incidentally, if you can't complain about the excessed of capitalism unless you have nothing, presumably you only have the right to complain about high taxes if you're paying the top-rate? No? You astound me.

just been able to watch it on youtube, wow. nice of her as well to pipe up about the downton abbey actor being a "rich tv star" as if (a) this means he can't have an opinion on abuses in the banking system, and (b) is even remotely true considering the man was clearly refered to as as extra on downton abbey.

You can't complain about the BBC if you're happy to enjoy the benefits of appearing on it, as a friend of mine on another board said.

Good swipe at Jacob Rees-Mogg and his ridiculous Bagpuss quote tonight.

Proves she knew absolutely nothing about it, but rather than say "Sorry I've not heard the quote", she made an arse of herself.

Mind you she'd been doing that all evening.

Tonight's is hosted by Stephen Mangan, with Grace Dent and Greg Davies (the mutant Rik Mayall).

Really? I thought she was a bit dull (I've seen her on some other shows too).

Bit annoyed at the BBC's current scheduling choices - it wouldn't be fair if people thought Greg Davies is getting too much TV time and gettng overexposed.

Ah, that explains it. :)

Hey, mojojojo, even he's not on TV as much as Sara Millican - nobody is.
