'Lost at sea': The £13k police drone which only nabbed one criminal before falling in the Mersey

It is not lost, it was nicked and is now on early warning duty partolling Liverpool drug 'stashes'. The drug gangs can probably work it far better than the local plod.

Will they?

This is Liverpool, right? They 'lost it at sea', claimed the 13 grand compensation and aren't replacing it. What a laugh.

Why can they not just admit it was stolen !!! - phil, Thailand, 31/10/2011 14:10

Because it wasn't stolen. The police deliberately crashed it in an insurance scam that allowed them to recover the full price on a 4 year old drone that never really worked well to begin with.

Yep. I'm a Merseyside ex-pat, and it's boringly predictable.

I wonder how many of them have ever actually been to Liverpool.
I don't even know how the 'Scousers are thieves' thing started.
I think I first heard it in the 80's but I don't know why.

Brookside (remember that?) together with Mr Enfield were responsible for much of it :

Did they make them out to be thieves? I'd forgotten that.

It was bound up with the Smack City mythology.

It wouldn't surprise me if it was some sort of smear for them all being communists and not liking her wonderfulness Maggie which some of the papers decided to go with.

My dad said you could never meet a more helpful person than a scouser and that comes from someone born in Salford.

I must admit, the scousers I've known have been decent chaps. I just cannot stand the accent.

I've always got on well with the scousers I've met (admittedly that's not very many).
As for the accent, which one? I reckon there's a least three.

I expect most people get that impression from their local papers. "William Scroat originally from Liverpool was given a six month suspended sentence and 150 hours community service." That's the only type of Liverpudlian that's considered newsworthy.
I don't mind the accent. It makes me feel nostalgic.

To put it into context, the accent that awful woman from Coronation Street has who was on MasterChef a few weeks back. Margie or something?

Margie Clarke. I put her in that "faces I'd like to punch" thread a while back. Can't stand her.

And Bread.

As for the accent it differs from place to place within Merseyside just as the London accent, for example, does. The South Liverpool accent, where the Beatles were from, is quite thicker compared to the reedier tones of the north of the city, which themselves can differ slightly from place. On the subject of accents, it's the American ones I can't tell apart. With the exception of Italian New York and Texan I couldn't tell if a person was from Seattle, Boston or Chicago.
