Funny how they were praising them in an earlier article

Flower power: 'Blinged-up' poppies have the X Factor as sales set to reach £40million

Quote:
While the Poppy Appeal has always been a successful fundraising venture, the pin itself has never really been regarded as a fashion staple.
But thanks to a revamp - and a string of celebrity endorsements, the accessory has become a style must-have - and an instant sell-out hit.
The new range of poppies is expected to generate more than £40million this year - the biggest in the history of the Royal British Legion, currently celebrating its 90th anniversary.

I still find it incredibly obscene to have fashion poppies. It merely ties into the celebrity fixation that the poppy symbol has become.

Actually, that rings a bell. Isn't it part of that BNP children's cartoon of a few years back - Boudicca defeated the Romans coz she is wite, innit.

Yep. Billy Brit, it was featured on HIGNFY, which I expect is where you saw it.

Looks like Cameron isn't the only bandwagon jumper.

English Defence League in Fifa roof protest over England team Remembrance Day poppies

Two members of the English Defence League climbed onto the roof of Fifa's headquarters in Zurich with a banner protesting against the ban.

A Fifa spokesman confirmed the protest is ongoing and that Swiss police were in attendance.

The two protesters displayed a banner with two poppies on which read: "English defence League. How dare Fifa disrespect our war dead and wounded. Support out troops."

I do hope that the Swiss police carry machine guns or tasers.

It seems that Prince William is now aboard the bandwagon, and is hectoring Fifa to break its own rules.

I'm sure the FIFA board are genuflecting at the very sight of his letterhead.

More on the EDL 'occupation' of Fifa headquarters:

http://www.edlnews.co.uk/edl-news/tommy ... ppy-appeal

Unlike Help for Heroes who are a bit ambivalent about the EDL, the British Legion has no truck with them at all. I rather doubt that the FA will be best pleased to have their cause promoted by a couple of violent racists...

We can but hope a heavy gust of wind comes from nowhere and knocks them both off.

David Cameron really doesn't seem to understand the art of diplomacy. In the run up to bidding for the world cup he was happy to cozy up to FIFA delegates to try and get their votes but as soon as it was clear that the bid had failed he was more than happy to put the boot into FIFA.
I assume as a result of the English FA's behaviour we have very few friends at FIFA so it's hardly surprising that FIFA have refused to budge. If this potential problem had been noticed when the fixtures was first arranged so quiet lobbying may have gained some concessions but the megaphone diplomacy of Cameron has no chance of working. Cameron's approach to the FIFA seems very similar to his approach to the EU where he wants to pick and chose which rules we should abide by.

The EDL are certainly happy to hijack the poppy for their own ends.

So now England players can wear poppies on their black armbands. How ridiculous.
