Having read the odd story in tacky women's mags along the lines of 'I received a donor heart from a trapeze artist/painter/chef and became interested in the circus/an amazing artist/a Cordon Bleu cook', I'd be inclined not to want these people's organs anyway just in case it was true and I caught stupid.

Fine. Remember those oppinions of yours next time you need to go into hospital for something, and discover you require treatment that only years of scientfic research could have ever made happen.

There's no realisation, is there, that without the NHS they wouldn't be able to afford health care for exactly the same reason they can't afford private healthcare now. They aren't rich enough. And supposing, of course, that with NHS competition removed the private healthcare companies would drop their rates. I think the likelihood of that is firmly into negative numbers territory.

Don't be silly Malcolm. When we're not paying for the NHS in tax, we'll all be so stinking rich we'll be able to afford top tier BUPA rates, and of course none of the medical companies will hike their prices up knowing they now have a captive market. You know, just like no one in the USA ever dies because they can't afford healthcare and everyone - even the poorest person - is well off because they don't have to pay such a huge public service bill.

Its not a Pagan festival...maybe it 'was' a time of year that a pagan festival was held hundreds of years ago, but Christmas is a Christian festival now. My birthday is on the 4th of July. Perhaps the Daily Mail don't have it completely wrong. Here in Wales (Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council to be exact.) those headlines wouldn't be too far off the mark. My local Community Centre held a Christmas Fete recently - in order to qualify for funding from the Council the word 'Christmas' was not allowed to appear on flyers, advertising, etc.

I'm calling bullshit on that.

As wanabeyankee (a c***s username if ever there was one) clearly seems to think all the 85% are practicing christians, what percentage do followers of other religions bring this total figure up to? 130, maybe 140%. Because there simply can't be that many christians in the UK, if there where church attendance figures would reflect that.

The problem is, those who claim to follow Christian "values" without actually bothering to ever read the Bible (especially the inconvenient bits about loving your neighbour) or go to church. Hence the push at the last census to encourage people who didn't practice religion of any variety to say so.

Not sure if the results of that (or anything else in the census) have been announced yet. I haven't heard anything....
