I believe that he intends to infer or imply that HMS Belfast may have had just a little assistance in winning the war.

The people who are bleating because the ship isn't on a poster don't exactly seem to have been out on the streets demanding a medal for those who actually served on her in the war.

The point being they care more about whether a ship is in a picture than about the men who served in bitterly harsh conditions on board her when she was actually in service.

Of course it did, the Russian convoys were crucial.
But that doesn't mean that "without HMS Belfast there wouldn't be an Olympic Games in London" does it?
To point out that there were many other factors which contributed to winning the war isn't belittling HMS Belfast is it?

I'd certainly agree with you there.
As has been said elsewhere, some are attempting to hijack Remembrance Day because they think it's all about them rather than veterans.

It was my intention to convey the meaning that there may have been many ships, many tanks, many aircraft and many men who won the war...

Agreed.
I thought Bluebellnutter was criticising Fozzy's post.
I seem to have got the wrong end of the stick.
Sorry Malcolm and Bluebell.

I've no idea what he thought he meant, that was my interpretation of what I thought he meant, which means that is what it would have meant if I had written it, but I didn't, he did, so really you need him to confirm (or not) that my reading of what he wrote is, in fact, correct.

Sorry, on second reading it does look like I was aiming the perspective line at Fozzy, I wasn't, it was aimed at the people bleating about whether or not some boat or other is on a fucking poster.

A spokesman for the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games said that it was 'unfortunate' that HMS Belfast had been removed from the posters.

They added: 'HMS Belfast was unfortunately excluded from one of the seven adverts for the London 2012 Festival.

'We are very sorry about this – it was a simple mistake in the advertising production process, and we apologise if this mistake has caused offence.

'The mistake has been rectified and posters without HMS Belfast are being removed.'

Only took the 32 paragraphs to get to that.

Voted 509 into the red, does he not realise it's a Mail reader's right to be outraged, just because a story happens to be complete bollocks is no reason to stop that.

Lax Olympic border checks 'may let in illegal migrants' as well as thousands of athletes

I will be surprised if any of the athletes or supporters go home, I think this is the reason why we are having the Olympics even with the 'open door' policy someone somewhere feels we're still not getting enough foreigners in.

It's not letting them in that is the problem, it's making sure they leave afterwards ... they should be coached straight to the Olympic village, chaparoned if they leave it, then coached straight to the airport back home after the games. Village security will have a double job to do, keeping some in and other out.

Close all ports and also employ natives to monitor beaches & coves (with bonuses paid for every un-uk person captured), would be a heck of a lot cheaper than letting them through.

I love the image of a load of mad Mailites piling in on every hapless swimmer fetching up on their local beach and driving the local Plod insane dragging innocent holidaymakers (especially any they deem to be unduly tanned) into the police station, fighting over who claims the bonus. Bit of a bonanza for lawyers with all the inevitable false imprisonment and racial discrimination claims, too.

Yes folks, forget about all that noble modern Olympiad celebration of youth and of international sporting brotherhood mallarkey. EVERYBODY that is coming to the Olympic Games in London is only coming so that they can stay here - legally or otherwise.

D'ye know - we really must live in the very best country on the globe - every other fucker in the world seems to want to be here if you believe the Mail-ite racists.

The scary stuff is that most of these fuckwits really mean what they post on Mail Online. I'm perhaps being charitable when I say that there must be a few that are just indulging in piss-extraction.

Many of the local fruit farms where I live employ East European pickers in the summer months.

They live in caravans on the farms, and every Monday (their day off) a minibus runs a shuttle service to the supermarket so they can do their weekly shopping.

And every Monday, Mr Plod gets a load of phone calls from people who have just seen a bunch of swarthy-looking foreign types hanging around in Tesco's car park, who they assume have just climbed out of the back of a lorry.

I'm sure Rafael Nadal, Lionel Messi and Usain Bolt, to name but three gold medallists from 2008, will be desperate to remain here for our benefits should they be attempting to retain their titles.

Well if Messi is determined to stay here I hear Old Trafford is nice this time of year...
