Tattoos vs. "The Troops".

Mail readers hate tattoos, but by making negative comments about this man's tats will they be seen as running down "our boys"?

Not white van people. They're a key part of the readership.

Given the speed with which the Olympics and Team GB lost their sheen (they only held it temporarily)* in the eyes of the Mailites, I'd say van driver > woman > cyclist.

*Except for lovely Victoria Pendleton, slurp, drool.

I think you're right there, although the correct form should be "otherwise law-abiding" motorist > woman > cyclist

The Mail position on cyclists is a bit complex - the old lady on her bike with a basket, the village postie, the child that gets BANNED from cycling to school by H&S jobsworths, Victoria Pendleton... all would win any game of Mail Top Trumps. But lycra-clad MAMILs or hoodies on BMXs are the scum of the earth who jump red lights, ride on pavements and generally cause a nuisance to the hard-pressed motorist.

The crucial things being -

1. The bicycle cannot be viewed as a suitable mode of transport for a man. Fine for kids, old women, and as a piece of sporting kit ridden by everyone's favourite duchess of Cambridge semi-lookalike shit dancer; but not credible as a MAN vehicle for MEN doing MAN things.

2. On top of that, the bicycle cannot be seen as better in any way than a car - whether it be legal rights, speed, ability to zip in and out of traffic, it cannot be allowed to triumph! Because that's just like cutting your car's (and by extension your own) cock off.

I predict a good few comments about how it's all well and good him remembering his fallen comrades, but that the tat is over the top and common.

IMO, seems an odd thing to do, but if he gets a buzz from it, then why not? I just hope he won't regret it later.
